Sci, you may want to try the route I went/am still going. I've been TKM/M. Chef with artisan 4-4-4-0 and merchant 0-0-0-4 for quite some time. The hardest phase for me, by far, was phase 4 with the sith in the village. Being that I'm a level 54 and they're all in the 80-85 range, there's just no way to do it solo anyway, so the extra oomph from swords isn't much help there. If you retain TKM, you can still run around and pull missions on Dantooine or the planet of your choice, still get combat xp, and you're still able to be a chef.
I didn't want to give up either of my professions, regardless of what kind of position the CU put me in. Once the phases all run through and I unlock the second slot, I'll be dropping all combat to be a full crafting jedi pad, (lol) and the alt can do the fighting and hunting.
If you still want to be a chef while being able to pursue the path to jedi, I just wanted to let you know that it is doable.

The two Sith that hit you after the Old Man are level 76 and level 78 or so they have been for my friends...my one force sensitive toon who isn't my chef did that part before the CU.

Oh, I know that. I've been picking my battles since the CU hit, and have gotten pretty good against even my CL +2 or +3 (as long as there aren't too many of them). The question is: what level are the enemies I'd have to deal with in the Village quests(and the Sith ambush/camp to get there in the first place)?

Any Single Master elite can do alright, against mobs of his/her level.
I'm certainly not going to be a "power grinder" even once I get to the village. I'll stick with my current combat template (M chef + TKM + 1003 swordsman, CL 59) unless it turns out to just not be enough.
Out of curiousity, how effective are pets nowadays? I don't need a tank, what's a good choice for damage output? BE creature? Droid? Faction pet?

You know whats the best thing about jedi is?
The free unlock.. nothing better then getting a second toon to do whatever you want without having to pay for another account.
Funny thing is I now spend more time on my Chef then my jedi because its just more fun.

There's something to be said about running your own little business in a game and watching it be successful. But it can become bothersome if it's taking as much time as a real-life job
