Thread: Buying and re-selling? Yay or nay?

FWIW, I have no problem with people buying my foods for re-sale, although it puzzles me because my prices are in line with the server. I figure if I'm getting what I want for the food I'm making, and it all carries my brand name, more power to the guy who's buying tons &(I assume) re-selling it. I'd much rather they contact me in-game about bulk pricing, though, since I also don't want to see my vendors emptied.

As a chef, if I see it happening a lot, I raise the price slightly on the item that's selling out that way, though, since I assume I've charged too little for it.

Yeah, that's the kicker. For the most part, the foods I'm seeing are almost at the same levels as the things I'm selling. I can't even make it for as cheap as they're selling it. On the other hand, I'm not particularly fond of the idea of selling something with somebody else's name on it, so I don't know. It's still an idea I'm toying with, but I can just imagine all the talk that will come of it on my server if I actually do it. lol.

Well go ahead if that is what you want, you can always set up a different shop for that. A lot of the lower priced chefs are trying to break into the market and establish a client base, they will burn out and go broke eventually if they keep it up.

IMO there would be 2 people reselling.

First is the person that sees that your selling cheap and they may be able to make a quick credit. While I wouldn't ban anyone from my store for doing this a few times, I would at least ask them to just order it from me so that others can still buy stuff from me.

The second is the merchant that just wants to set up their own mall. While I don't know if I'd actually like being a supplier, I would be much more willing to do this than the first person. I don't believe I would lower my price a whole lot though for this.

believe it or Not there are chefs out there that will work with you on this very subject... its Wholesale! I know Ive been approached by someone that just wants me to make the stuff so he can sell it on his vendor... Ill gladly keep my name off of it and let him take the time to put it on a vendor and hope that sells soar! Im getting my credits in one shot... same day! It happens everyday in our "real" societies, why wont it work in the "galaxy". Now the problem with this situation is that instead of contacting the chef and making a "Deal" with him, you simply are just buying his stock out... thats like going to blockbuster and renting every movie and then opening a store and rerenting them at a higher price... Not very ethical and sooner or later people will catch on and NOT rent movies from you.... Talk to the guy and ask him if he wants to work for you as a wholesaler... I bet youd be surprised by the response!

I know I smashed that entire post together... sorry!

yes wholesale is a great thing, but i always try to have a vendor myself just so that my name is tied with the quality product... (even though the majority of my money may come from someone else selling my goods)

I sell all my food pretty cheap for my xerver. I'm an 11 point chef with really good resources (that I was given or harvested myself) and I haven't had a problem. most people will buy 3 crates of each item, and if they resell it then more power to them. I would only have a problem if someone bought out ALL of my items or one preticular item. More than likely I would ask them why, and if I didn't like the answer I would ban them.

I've done it in the past but I tried not to wipe the guy out, buying say 25% of his stock in a trip and I was reselling in a pretty out of the way place where there was a huge demand. After a couple of trips I sent the guy an email asking about buying more in quantity at his regular price.

My current main is a BE and I have a chef friend who is learning the business. I can't ever see myself banning somsone from my shop for making a purchase. I set the price and a buyer met it. If I want to be sure people can buy stuff affordably, I break down the crates. I will typically break 1/2 a factory run into 25s, and the other half into 10s and 5s. Someone who can't afford expensive stuff has a good chance of being strapped to buy a crate of 25s anyway. I only do this for end user items, tissues stay in 25s.

So if someone wants to resell my stuff, fine.

I have strong opinion on this. I am a BE WS Chef, Merchant, Doc . I always sell low because I understand poor. I usually am. I dont care if someone comes in and buys a few crates of something because it's cheap and they can resell it a2-3x what they bought it for. My biggest gripe is that they empty my vendors every time I stock it (within 9 hours). I have started banning ppl from my shop. Now, I dont have probs with ppl placing orders. Same price and all, thats cool with me i'm not in it to get rich just so that i can make enough to pay for my factories and houses. It really bumms me out that ppl will resell at such a high price just because they can. If you want to resell, buy a few crates and email the crafter to request and order. I mean really if i hade someone who just wanted to empty my vendor everyday or 3 why should i have to pay the maintenance on it lol. Anyway Cya out there. - Noeari Enabane-

hmm interesting, I think i would suss out the chef first, IF he/she is a vet, then selling their items too cheap is just stupid and if they wanna burn themselves out, I would give them a head start and make a profit for myelf by going ahead with"operation resell".

If they are kinda noob however, then it makes sense to sell cheap (at first)to try and build up a customer base, and in this caseIwould give them a break.
