Thread: Harvesters to expensive now for a chef to maintain
ReblSoldier wrote:
no you seee the reason it cost 7k is because the maitance was not at 100% but now they have to run at 100%..
before Icould let it get down to 66% then repair it which was easy to do , but making a chef put in a 10,000 Credit deposit just to it can run at that low price is to expensive.
that means sure it cost the same , if you fork up a ton of money all at oncee , well not to many chefs have a ton of money all at once.
You're doing it wrong, plain and simple. Set it up and put 700 credits and 600 powerin it. That will maintain it for 24 hours. Where did you get this 10k number from? You don't want to go check it for almost two weeks?
And even if it did take 10k (which it doesn't), go do 4 pairs of delivery missions and put your 12,000 credits in the bank. Every other class has to do missions at one point or another, what makes chefs different?Right now im earning an average of 2k a day as a chef. I cannot maintain harvesters, I put all my money into my factory. I also cannot afford to buy all my materials so i harvest by hand all of my agriculturals. Luckily I have some great friends who give me meat and hides so i dont have to get those if i did i would never survive. It is very tough to go it alone which i like but its also tough to form relationships that allow you to make an exchange of services. I spend a lot of time trying to get repeat customers.
The biggest problem I have with chef is it isnt casual player friendly..... come to think of it none of SWG is haha but i guess thats an almost impossible design element to fix in any game.
How does a scout make any money? He doesn't, not a single dime. What's that you say? He can sell hides? How, pray tell, does a scout kill the things to get the hides? Marksman? Brawler? Well then he's not just a scout anymore, is he?
And a pistoleer also needs to buy weapons, armor, pay for repairs on his gear, buy countless, disposable powerups, often pay for cloning or insurance, and TONS of wound healing. Do you pay for any of that? No. Not unless you're more than a chef, in which case your argument becomes invalid.
What does a medic do to earn money? Tips? Yah right. I'll tell you what he does, he does missions. Missions are a part of SWG. You signed up only to be a chef and never anything else? Well too bad. The game doesn't work like that.
[[Being a chef will hardly pay for anything let alone a harvester. I can't buy materials because they will cost more than running a harvester itself. No one is going to sell materials for less than it takes to get them out of the ground. It's just silly. So I use harvesters since taking enough materials by sampling by hand to skill up would mean I would get halfway though the chef tree sometime after Everquest 3 comes out.]]
And yet there are chefs (some posting in this very thread) who say they are making a profit. That should make you blink and ask yourself what you're doing wrong. Why doesn't it?
[[I signed up as a chef so I can be a chef and thinking that I could support myself as a chef. I see other professions able to support themselves with money by doing thier jobs. Why not the chef?]]
The pistoleer often becomes an artisan so he can repair his own gear. The scout becomes a marksman so he can kill things to harvest. The medic becomes a combatant to get resources and to more easily find hurt people to heal. The artisan takes up marksman to defend himself while checking harvesters.
This game is about multiple professions. I dare you to name a single non-hybrid profession that can function completely on its own without any other skills. Even most marksmen become novice scouts and novice medics to help make money and reduce downtime.
Teach combatants what your food can do. Get them to buy it. Get them hooked on it.
You can't sell 6k of food a day? Get a merchant to do it! That's their job. Let them help you fill your resource needs, sell your goods, and let you focus on crafting.
I make ~250cr a day selling food. I can't even GIVE it away yet, as 99% of people do not realise how good food is.
However, I login, head to Bestine, grab 2 kill missions, head to my wind gen for power & do the missions on the way - deposit 750 credits.
Head back to bestine, 2 more kill missions on the way to my next harvesters - rinse & repeat.
I may not have thousands to spend on the bazaar, but I get more than enough to maintain a full complement of harvesters, as small house & a factory, and some to play with, and at teh same time, Im getting carbine XP, scouting XP, and lots of meat & hide for food.
Even a lowly novice scout can kill the smallest of creatures for hides. One can even take destroy missions against them.

Yes I do pay for that in addition to any houses, harvesters, or vendors I run. Because the game does not allow me to be a chef and make enough money to support being a chef I am forced to pick up destroy missions to make money. It doesn't make my argument invalid, in fact it helps my arguement. Which is that I cannot be be a chef and support myself being a chef. I didn't want to pick up pistol expert, but in order to get anywhere within 2 years I need to take destroy missions.
My problem isn't that I can't make money at all. I can go and do missions if I need money. My problem is that I can't make enough money as a chef. I signed up to make money as a chef not to be some NRA rifle carrying goober. It's completely the oppisite of that. I carry a gun so I can pay for being a chef. This shouldn't be happening, it's an elite crafting profession!

Accually the game does work like that for some professions. I am just asking for it to work for chefs too, and if medics are having problems making money being medics they have thier own message board for thier problems.

Ask them if they are making enough profit selling food and drinks to support some harvesters and an windmill. I'm making money from being a chef, but selling at max 10 items a day MIGHT pay for just one harvester. That still leaves the house for my vendors, my vendors, and anything else that might have an upkeep.
Plus I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I have my own house with vendors, I've advertised on the server specific board and in crowed areas in game about me selling food and drinks at my shop. I've handed out free samples of my best item, Starshine Suprise with 10 uses, +112 to stamina and strength and lasts 400 or so seconds. They add a good amount to action regeneration. I hand these out to people that might need them like people that sample for material and entertainers and still don't have enough from sales to pay for anything. I have one return customer, and in order for me to make enough money from food and drinks to support being a chef, I will need to sell about 50 items a day. That's not going to happen with my current selection of items I can make so I run hours and hours of destroy missions.
The best item isn't even a chef item! It's in the domestic arts line! In order for me to compete with the item I will need lots and lots and lots of EXP in the Cooking line. Around 200,000 worth. So even if there is a huge demand for this item I won't get ANY chef EXP for it.

I know picking up marksman and scout will allow me to kill things and /harvest hides for extra money. I know that it will make me more money, that isn't the problem. The problem is that I see an architect able to make houses and support his trade. I see a weaponsmith able to make weapons and support his trade. And I see armorsmiths able to make armor and support his trade. I see them doing this and ask why not the chefs?
Teach combatants what your food can do. Get them to buy it. Get them hooked on it.
Get them hooked on what exactly? An entire skill line of items screwed up because there is no milk? Or the drinks that come in stacks of 2-3 because I need to grind 200,000 EXP in the Cooking line for the needed expiriment points? Or the 97% of the items that I can make that last a puny 3-4 minutes which might be fixed with a 200,00 EXP grind? The items that buff action, mind, and health when the substats do SO much more? Items requiring a resource an a completly different planet, but show crappy results?
The chef line has it's problems. Telling me to suck it up and take destroy missions isn't the answer.
