Hmmmm.... I'm a tailor and a chef and I've NEVER been able to make anything straight from a crate. I always had to take out the component and put it in the hopper individually(unbelievably bad design really). I guess I'll try crates tonight. I'll be estatic if it works. I'm making one crate at a time right now due to the fact that I'm putting 50 individual components in(can't put 100 since it takes reactive gas too and I try not to make partial crates :/)
