I'm guessing it was more to balance the additives and not make them standard. If that was the case, good job devs.

I just always find it odd that in all other professions the subcomponents are a minor cost in the production. The final product is the most costly. Now it is up for debate on whether you can call a tissue a subcomponent in that sense as it is optional. It just bugs me that if I wasn't a BE I could cut my costs on all my chef resources to under 1k per crate for resources, but then to make it actually sellable(well at least a lot more sellable) I need to increase my cost 3000-4000% or more.

Nothing against BEs as I've tried to actually make pets. I have no clue how most BEs actually stuck with that system to make pets. Its like writing a program in java but not knowing any of the built in functions, just guess at a name and see if it compiles and see what it does. I just think the system wasn't built correctly, Interdependence is one thing, but when it is on such a massive scale like food tissues people are going to find ways around it. For 1-2 million per run it really becomes cost effective to find other ways.

You know I was thinking about BE Additives today, and wondering why meat had to be the number one ingredient. If you were going to add something to a food, to enhance it, wouldn't it more likely be a chemical. Like preservatives for example.

that would be one way of looking at it...another way would be to think of the "meat" requirements as a source for things like enzymes and proteins.

Actually meat isn't the number one ingredient, it is just the limiting ingredient. When I do my runs of additives, I can burn 300-500k for high quality flora all at once. I might run through 60-100k of meat. Meat is harder to come by than the high quality flora, but you still need caches of millions of that great flora when it spawns. So both are difficult to come by. I wouldn't say additives is all about meat, meat and then more meat.

yes, but thats just for the nutritional ones (sadly the only ones useful since its the only practical one to make...quantity is ok...but hardly anyone wants quantity over quality)...look at the filling additive requirements (more than 2:1 on the meat to flora ratio for the heavy)...and then theres the really scary flavor additives...40 milk per heavy flavor additive...oh and it has to be good quality stuff too...try making a full run of that one. not sure about anyone else...but seeing a 5k stack of milk is very rare...let alone a 40k stack (well 40k + 40 units at the minimum)

The biggest bang for the buck is the nutr ones and they are the easiest to make. I have however made and used flavors ones before in small amounts for personal use. I do aggree that the requirements suck, but even if they didn't, I still wouldn't be using them save for the rare whim. So I see the other additives as a non-issue for now. If their power was increased then we could start complaining about what it takes to make them. Since they aren't worth making either way, no point in complaining about what goes into something that is never made.

Now if you want to complain about how much they suck power wise, I am all for that.
