Thread: Brief History of Chefs

This is something I just wrote to the developers, and just thought I would share.

When I was in beta I remember talking with Holocron ablout the chef profession. He said the plan was to have doctors buffs have a lot of power but be quick working, chef buffs to have little power and long lasting, and smugger buffs to be someplace inbetween.

When the game started, this was not the case.Chef buffs were short lasting and not very powerful. Spice, medicine and the food foraged by scouts were all better than what the chefs could produce. Some schematics did not work, most schematics were unbalanced and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to where they were placed, nobody can advance without major grinding and milk (a component in many schematics) was nowhere to be found in the game except in minute quantities.

And there was a bug that prevented us from using factories effectively. All food that came out of factories only had one charge, no matter what our schematics had. We lived with this bug until the first patch. Once it was fixed, we had an even worse bug: you couldn't finish all your food. After using a few charges, food would stop working all together. We waited six weeks until food was fixed in the second patch....which brought a worse bug. Now stacking buffs causes major damage. And we all ask ourselves if we are going to have to wait for the next patch for this be fixed.

And while this new bug hits everybody, but it does hit chefs the hardest. If you can't stack buffs, which are you going to choose to use? Doctors and Entertainers are now telling people not to use food because it will mess up their buffs. They are right, of course....still hurts.

In the mean time,Chef buffsare short lasting and not very powerful. Spice, medicine and the food foraged by scoutsare all better than what the chefscan produce. To top it off, musicians and dancers now also give much better buffs than anything a chef can produce. Some schematics still do not work, most schematicsare unbalanced and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to where theyare placed, nobody can advance without major grinding and milk (a component in many schematics)is stillnowhere to be found in the game except in minute quantities. Nothing has been changed or improved or anything. We were given eggs, in theory, but our schematics don't use eggs.

So, if I seem cynical on these boards I apologize, or if I am ranting I apologize. I am just getting really tired of all this. From where I am standing, the number of chefs are shrinking drastically.Devs keep telling us that thingswill get better soon (soon being an unknown quantity that sounds better than X). At this point, however....I am getting tired.

And let me say d.amn, dam.n it! It is my favorite swear and I can't write emphatically without it, da.mn it!

Honestly, if I owned a **edit** load of SOE stock and had enough power to fire somebody, I would.

I don't know if that makes any sense, but that sums up how I feel and how I feel their performance is.

Well...you haven't seen some of the other stuff I have been sending to the developers. Even got a cautionary e-mail from Xahn (not exactly a warning...just a friendly reminder to play nice.)

A really outstanding message. I stand in my empty bar and grill and raise my borked glass of Bespin Port to you.

They warn our MR. NICE AND FRIENDLY ?

They should feel happy that im not in charge of correspondent since i would notkeep playing nice and tell them over and over what THEY HAVE MESSED up but that their product has excessive design flaws.

I would send them a news article about customer relationship and holding up promises for customers each day.... -)

I'm just glad SirVimes is still doing the job, if he left I don't think they could find another player that would be willing to put up with the grief our profession has gotten from day 1 from SOE.
