Thread: positive chef's corner
Can youlist the good things in being chef...
Im not one yet but want to look forward to something positive about this profession, thx
If you are in a PA, you will definately garner some love and support to your cause. Hmm... what else... oh, you get to be apart of (probably) the most dedicated profession community.
The buffs can be decent, but if you are looking for what is 'uber' about this profession, there is nothing. There is no really cool special ability, or anything like that. But, if you enjoy roleplaying and producing meager buffs, than this profession is great! ![]()
I tried to be positive... did it work?
The only good thing about being a chef right now,.... is being uncommon.
Walk into a city and you'll see what I mean. People stop whatever they were doing to marvel at the cheftitle. My favorite reposnses are usually "Wow, look! Its a chef!" or "Holy Moly! A Chef??!!"
-Veo, Master Chef on Tarquinas
-Near Bestine, Tatooine (-2795 -4740)
The two replies above are very true. We are very few, but still people won't buy our food. Also, I am in a great PA, and nearly 80% of my sales are to these wonderful people, but it is because I have repeatedly sent out in game mails and made topics on our forums of the dangers of eating right now. Everyone has been informed, and now they buy with the certainty that they can eat safely. Other than that... the goods of being a chef... well, you can make your own semi-good buffs, on your own, and not require a Master Doctor or Dancer to do it for you. Other than that... we don't buff near as good, or near as long as doctors or dancers do... We're just mobile low end buff makers. That's it right now.
I think its fun to come up with new names for my food and drinks. ........
And to decorate my cantina. ........
Other than that, well, I just took on novice tailor yesterday. That looks like fun....![]()
1) Best title in Game "Expert Bartender". Well I'm a lush in real life so maybe thats why I love that title.
2) I don't have to be an entertainer to have my cantina.
All the food you make you can eat ![]()
Expert Bartender is the best title and because chefs are so rare you do get noticed, I get stopped almost everywhere by people who have never seen a master chef before.
The Chef community has some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to meet in the game and the people who have stuck with Master Chef, even though it is bugged and has little chance of getting fixed anytime soon really sais something about the intergity of the players.
Iron Chef > All others
( Iron Chef title+ TKA + Fat guy = Most awesome Character ever )* combover + a wifebeater = Too cool for words.
... but the they took away my wifebeater.. so now Koor's just a fat guy with no shirt.. maybe if I stand in one place and type /jump enough times, the developers will get nauseous and bring my wifebeater back.
One of the things I've done is put backpacks on my wall in my store telling people of the latest bug and the way to avoid/fix it. I did that with the stacking bug. I've done this with the buff bug. (Well, I DID just open a new store, but I have to remember to buy enough hide to make more backpacks for those public service announcements THERE, too.) I thank EVERYONE here who has supplied information about the bugs. You all have more patience than I do when it comes to tracking this stuff down. ![]()
Frankly, though, I haven't played my chef with enough glee to get beyond Mixology 2. I'm there now, and I intend to progress slowly. Sales drive how quickly I get XP right now. I got my Tatooine Sunburn access, and while I make cruddy ones, I'm working on Experimentation next...but only as I need to restock my bazaar and vendor areas.
I really do thank everyone and anyone who is supporting me by buying food and drink even during these sad days of the Buff Bug. I don't make enough to avoid doing daily survey runs (to keep a decent bank balance for buying resources I don't usually have access to), but it's nice to see a sale every few days. More sales = more skill earned. At least it does for THIS particular character. When I get frustrated with one aspect of the game, I play a marksman character on another server. Heehee.
BTW, some of the POSITIVE things about being a chef is this (I forgot to add this to my last message):
1. I play my chef when I'm tired of attacking things. Making stuff is nifty, and while we're facing bugs, it's just kind of neat to have a vendor selling your food and drink.
2. Due to the fact that there are so few chefs is that people DO notice you when you've got your flag up. Being a chef means that you will probably have a greater chance of getting into that PA you want to get into. I've decided NOT to join a PA with that character since I do ONLY maintenance-oriented stuff with her for now (and get my crafting fix out of the way). So, yeah, what others have already said.
3. Because we're such an ignored profession, there is a chance that this will change. If you become proficient in the ins and outs of being a chef and stick to it, you MAY have a chance to help the developers guide this profession into bigger and better things just because you've learned and played a chef long enough. The other side of this coin, though, is that you're currently NOT getting the developer love AND that if the devs believe the profession isn't quite as necessary to the game, you may NEVER get dev love or even find that they're just going to get rid of the class. (Hopefully they'll allow you to put your skill points into another class of your choice WITHOUT gaining the XP if they do this...) This is pure speculation, though. However, others have already speculated along these lines.
Really, there can be much downage ahead of us still, but there is a LOT of ways to go up from here with this profession.
I still REALLY REALLY think the SWG dev needs to talk to the Shaman/Alchemy EQ2 dev, though, since in EQ, alchemy is the equivalent of portable buffs, and, well, that's what chefs do for SWG.
