Thread: Question from a BE
1) Max CL is 70 at MCH. This is a hard cap, and clothing attachments will not allow you to exceed this cap.
2) Given #1, and the fact that an MCH can control up too 3 pets, additional target levels are 35, where you can sell matched pairs, or 24/23/23 where you look for a matched set of 3.
3) Special attacks are good, but I am told thatat their use at range is bugged. My personal favorite specials are blind and stun. Intimidate is good too. Knockdown/dizzy is a powerful combination. Disease is a total waste. And Poison is not terribly effective.
4) If you are considering doing sets, watch the combination on the specials, since the specials don't stack. For example, 3 CL23 pets with stun/intimidate/knockdown/dizzy/crippling blow/blind would be really sweet.
5) As a personal play style, I actually consider ranged attack to be a minus. There is no reason that pets shouldn't get in and stand toe-to-toe with their opponents. And the big strength of pets is their ability to distract your enemies, and get them off YOU. Better the Gurreck with 11,500 HAM, Light armor and 60% kinetic resist than me with 700 HAM, light armor and 43% kinetic (PSG) ... when it is working... 700 HAM, and no armor/resist when it isn't.
6) I favor the cat/narglatch/etc templates for their speed. I can have them out and follow my speeder, slowing down a few seconds every 500m or so for them to catch up. Though there is something particulary intimidating about the angler or rancor.
7) From a PvE perspective, high kinetic resist is most important. I think PvE like high Kinetic, but also require high energy and acid to counter the bulk of attacks. The best bet is to have pets with armor and no vulnerabilities, even if resists are low. That gives you blanket coverage.
Disclaimer: This is all from a PvE perspective. I do not PvP anymore.
There are basically two types of PvE:
1. Critter on critter, which calls for high kinetic resists
2.Critter on NPC, which in general calls for high heat or energy resists. However, there are of course exceptions; some NPCs use cold weapons, some acid, and some go into the melee mode as well.
I'd have to agree that given the bugginess of specials and ranged attacks, concentrating on the basics (high HAM, high kin resist, perhaps light armor) should be what you're aiming for.
I like knockdown/dizzy + other specials other than poison/disease. KD/Dizzy is tops.
I also want high HAM that is evenly distributed (a pet with 12k health and 9500 mind will not be purchased by me, ever).
Resists are important to have minimal vulnerabilities with high resists focused in kinetic and energy. High level pets should have many, many high resists with no more than one vulnerable in an uncommon area.
I believe in PvP you also better have high stun resist in addition to all others---problem with PvP is any BE pet worth taking into a fight is going to cost a LOT and is also going to DIE. Likely in its first fight. So don't make expensive PvP pets - Make mid level pets with very high ToHit ratings and specials that complement a player (e.g. dizzy/KD or to a lesser extent the other specials excluding poison/disease...although...strong disease might make a guy less likely to want to mess with you if he has to take a trip to the cantina after every fight).
For PvE, I believe their are a lot of creatures out there that have attacks that are as varied as the players weapons, so a wide range of good resists is still desirable.
If this sounds like I want it all, well, I do. Anything less, I can tame myself in the wild. Last week I pulled 12 TMB babies from2 lairs that were 250-300 meters apart by tapping them and riding away over and over. I don't care ifa TMBhas vulnerabilities or not, it is decent and I'll let some player kill it without losing any sleep because I can easily replace it. I also just spent 200k on a BE pet CL63 that is a VERY nice pet. It is a Gurreck that will never know what a faction battle is because I can't easily replace it.
Otherwise, your market is PvE players who: demand high quality that they cannot tame themselves, are all over the place in what levels they can use (but the 1-2-3 pet combos above is agood way to go), and who will not buy slow pets, buggy pets that run away because of spacing/range problems, or pets that look lame/weak no matter how good they are (otherwise don't make UberBunnies). Oh, and they want armor all the time, especially at low levels (I've owned a level 35 pet with level 1 armor and currently have a CL38 pet with level 1 armor - - both are post patches)
Bacta Spray, Bacta Toss, Neurotoxin andDeuteruim Toss enhancers mostly. everyone loves more healing power and better stick rate for DoTs, and the occasional bump in tick strength.
What else is there, Rupture and Traumatize... but they only add to duration and I doubt you would sell too many.
You can't buy them on my server, nobody makes them, if they do they sell out.
S'why I have a BE alt. ![]()
