Thread: Oh man its worse than I imagined :(

My wife Ravyn and I hunt together all the time. She's thekickbooty Fencer, and I'm the guy that keeps her in top shape. I've based my entire template around being the best support character I can for her.

I'm almost Master Doctor. I can buff her non-blue bars between 500 and 1000pts a shot for over an hour duration. I can insta complete heal her red and green bards. I enjoy the harvesting/crafting side of the game, and Doctor is a rewarding profession for those that enjoy crafting. I sell Stim B on the bazaar for 700 credits a pop and I can't keep up with the demand. In short...I'm very happy with the doctor despite a couple huge bugs.

Unfortunately as a Doctor, I can't touch the blue bar. Despite Ravyn migrating significant portions of her stats into her Mind and Willpower, we are still seriously 'gated' in our hunting efforts by death and downtime associated with the blue bar. I realize this is an important gameplay balance element, not complaining about it. But I was determined to mitigate it as much as possible.

Thus I took up the Chef profession. More crafting and resource hunting, something I enjoy any way. More access to Health & Action buffs, which is nice. But most importantly I saw it as a way both to buff the total Mind pool to keep Ravyn on her feet longer in battle, and the critical Willpower pool, to reduce the downtime in between battles waiting for her mind to regenerate.

I Was actually quite pleased with the novice Domestic Arts line. Even before hitting Chef I'm crafting high quality Food & Drinks:

Ss_HealthSnacks (Teltier Noodles) at +110 Health +80 Willpower for 300s
Ss_MindEnhancers (Aitha) at +80 Mind for 400s.

For a Novice profession, I was pleased with this. I like the Teltier not so much for the health buff, but the Willpower buff goes nicely with the MindEnhancers. I kept my wife well stocked with this combination at all times.

Then a couple things happened that really squelched (and I mean totally squelched) my enthusiasm for this profession.

First, I hit Novice Chef. And looked at the food I could make. And realized its WORSE than what I could make in Domestic Arts line. To add to my agony I then looked at the xp requirements needed to advance and realized that making my Health and Mind enhancing food from Domestic Arts doesn't help me advance.

At that point I got pretty bumbed out, to be honest, but not totally dejected. I'm not afraid of working for something good. Not a problem.

Then this morning I log onto these boards and for the first time see the list of all our our food & drinks we can make and the buffs we can attain. And OH MY there is NOTHING on that list better than what I can make at Domestic IV (Keep in mind that +1000's to secondary stats is meaningless to my wife because I can insta-heal her red and blue bars to full through the Doctor tree, so they are absolutely not the cause of any death or downtime for us).

The BEST mind buff I see on that list is in Entree's II:

Ormachek +50 mind +50 focus +50 willpower 100s

Which I'm assuming I could Experiment up to +80 range for 150s or so. Ok first of all, the amount of the buff itself is ALMOST TOTALLY NEGLIGIBLE, and even worse, the duration is pathetically short, not enough to evel last the time it takes to drink, wait for the mind to regen to full, and then fight.

I just CANNOT justify the time or skillpoints in this profession with that kind of return.

IF I had seen a Dev post anywhere saying "Yes, the Chef is currently horribly broken, and we are going to improve it CONSIDERABLY" then that would be enough for me to invest in the class in anticipation of the 'future'.

But I have seen nothing of the sort. I have seen these issues raised by the community, but honestly I really underestimated the severity of them. I mean the Chef class is COMPLETELY useless at this point for the non-roleplaying results-oriented gamer.

I'm now officially bumbed out

im sure it could be experimented to +250 +250 +250 but would have a 110 sec duration and be in a stack of 2

Hopefully they will be making all the later buffs +1500 or more then there would be a point to this profession right now after the tatoonie sunburn nothing iis that great..

Also you didnt look at the master chef

Master chef has a +600 willpower -100 stamina food which is probibly the second best thing the chef can make ... The Chef will be fixed im sure..

hopefully they are wating till the combat classes and medic are all toping out so they will know exactly what size buffs are going to be needed..

I know for PvP you will beed to be buffing over 2500 ham too even keep someone alive over 15 seconds.. and I hope they also notice the need for big buffs liike that.

SirVimes...

Could you forward this link out to the devs. The good doctor seems to have expressed most everyone's concerns.

I agree. I like seeing the non-chef (or former chef) perspectives on the profession. Sometimes I feel that we won't get noticed unless we had a big number of disgruntled chefs, but everyone seems to be avoiding the profession from the getgo. I hope more chef changes are at least aknowledged.

I don't know if you will feel better Ssauron, but hear that with just cooking II, entree II and a +25 food assembly buffed shirt from a dark jedi I can make ormachek in stacks of 3 that buffs 100 mind focus and willpower for 200 secs. The duration of that dishraises fast with experimentation.

Most of our food gets really good with proper experimentation. I know you are concerned about the blue bars but atm I don't have anything that can buff blue but ormachek, so I'll talk about my other stuffs. Basic Fire stew buffs constitution for around 140, lasts 300 secs. It also debuffs willpower for the same amount and time. Well, with just my 5 experimentation points I could raise the con buff to over 200 and reduce the willpower debuff to around 60.

My food is really starting to be efficient. And I'm only a quarter up the skill tree.

Mr Dark Lord of the Rings with and Extra 's',

Please also keep in mind this WEAK point I will now make: Rather than going up the tree yourself, you can always BUY these food items from your other chefs. I know its not the fun of actually becoming Emeril Skywalker, but you still get to have the food in your inventory(rather than the rescources and the crafters) and some chef somewhere is getting paid, AND the profession gets some more recognition. Of course...I'm not saying DON'T be a chef, I'm just saying if you decide NOT to climb that tree, to keep your support-y needs in mind.

Ssauron...

To be honest with you, I don't expect a real reply from the devs until the end of next month.

While I do want to see you keep up with the chef profession, just to cut back on agrivation you might want to concentrate on other things until the devs start fixing us, and not just wait for the devs. As I said, it might be a while.

I would like some details how/where you obtained this +25 Food Assembly shirt. You mentioned a dark jedi. Is this a quest? Does it require a certain faction? How do I get one too?

Luck.

Some NPCs drop these gemstones that are skill boosters. You can then put them into clothes that have sockets for the skill boost. I think he was just lucky that it was a chef related skill boost, it could have been any kind of skill boost.

well this is amusing Ssauron,

Right after I posted something similar after looking over different recipies I see your post.. I'm in total agreement... I doubt I will even bother working up the chef line until I gets a bit more attention... There are just WAY to many hurdles to climb to warrent trying to climb that ladder....

"There are just WAY to many hurdles to climb to warrent trying to climb that ladder...."

And the prize at the top is not that great.

I agree completely with all of this. I know the developers are going to do something about this, but really would love to know when.
