Thread: Chef Experimentation

Ok.. is it just me? I am only a novice chef with 2 chef experimentation points... I get critical failures using chef experimentation more then half the time.... it seems the better the percentages of my initial craft the more likely I am to critical fail...

Am I bugged? Is this normal? Is it because I need to invest points in chef experimentation line until I start getting successful experimentations? Its very frustrating to me... I have never failed experimentation so much in any other profession. I don't understand what is going on.

Last night I had 10 critical failures in a row. I have no idea what is going on. Any advice/input would be appreciated.

It's normal. It gets better as you advance up the cooking line, but probably not worth bothering to experiment until you are at cooking II. Also, upgrade your food/chem tool and station to as high effectiveness as you can find, at least over 10 for each.

I'll try making a new one when I find some good chemical to use on it.. that may have been my problem.. used a great metal and a crappy chemical...

Next question: Why master artisan.. they don't get any additional artisan experimentation points... I have full artisan experimentation... maybe I shuld train up master artisan.. I am qualified for it. Was saving the AP's for master chef but I can get them by time I actually get master chef.

The tool is all about conductivity. 930 conductivity copper got me to 14+ effectiveness. The chem doesn't matter.

Master artisan isn't necessary, if you have both the dom and eng lines filled you should be fine for making a good tool. Don't forget to make a high quality general items crafting tool to help you along with making the food/chem tool .

Maxed out tools (+14 crafting tool/+40 crafting station) will dramatically increase your success rate. I've found that failure on chef experimentation is very reduced after cooking II, it's kinda "the corner" that you turn.

Thanks for the advice... is their a good web site to figure out what the important stats are for crafting specific items.. I tend to look for OQ.. but that obviously doesn't mean anything.

swgcraft.com is good. However, if you look at the schematic in the crafting tool it will list what stats mean what. This guide goes over how that works: http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Advanced%20Guide%20Crafting.This information can be trusted for most things other than food (for food it's just wrong information).

Hi im a new chef i have mixology 4 but now im wondering what skills to get next. So is chef experimentation worth it? as in can you make significant changes by experimenting on something or shouldi first concentrate on deserts or entrees for the variety.

Thanks

I will have Mixology IV tonight. And as soon as i'm done with Bartender, I plan to go on the Experimentation grind. You'll need to get it anyways, and this way you get the bonuses to make drinks better (since you only have bartender) And since I have heard Ithonian Mist (I'm not sure if thats the name, but it comes in Mixology II) is the best thing to grind. You won't need to reach anything in foods to get a new grinding food.

BUT, if you aren't doing this for a holo, and are just doing this for your own profession or to make money

I'd go like this

started at 0040
0041
1041
1141
1142
2142
2242
2243
3243

Just a suggestion from a somewhat n00b

Experimentation and assembly definitely makes a difference. With Cooking IV and good resources, you can get a 20-50% increase in buff size, another 3-5 doses, and (for some foods at least) an extra minute or so duration. The assembly skill means you'll be getting more great successes on initial assembly (and fewer crit fails), so you're already starting off better. The experimentation points also let you customize for particular customer needs. Some are tight on inventory space and want lots of doses, others (the most common I've seen) just want the biggest buff you can make. Duration doesn't seem to be that big of a deal, although I try to get everything I can over 6 minutes.
