Thread: what's your setup?

hi everyone. i got master chef maybe a month and a half ago, and i'm just starting to get my number of sells up. this obviously means that i need to get my productivity up as well... this is where my question comes in...

now i dont know about most of you, but this has been a very lucrative business for me thus far. i would assume the 'older' chefs are able to buy 25 cpu resources at the drop of a hat if needed... i was curious. i am only running 2 food factories at the moment, and am obviously running things slower than some other chefs. i want to know about everyone's setups. how do you guys work out making all the preliminary ingredients (carbosyrup, soypro, casks, etc...)? do you run it in the same factory as you plan on making the final food in? do you have a couple factories designated for components? are you constantly producing food? or do you have to wait constantly for components, etc. to be finished or whatever.

how do you guys work with your resources? the flora and such is a little easier to come by, but what about meats? i usually hunt the meat myself and am lucky if my 2 characters simultaneously can hunt enough during a shift to collect 20k of meat, this usually goes towards a full schematic of BE components, leaving none for the actual food if needed. does everyone just pay for their meats? also, how do you work with your BE's? 20k+ of meat is a lot of money to dish out for just a component, is this just something you figure into your cost? is your additives something you have to kind of get when you can? (a good shift) or do you have a constant supplier of them?

if you guys could inform me on your own 'system' i think it would up my productivity by a lot. i'm in dire need of help :/

sorry for the barrage of questions, i appreciate you putting up with them

thanks in advance!!!

Hello! I am a pretty new Master Chef in the Bria server as well. However, I do get a lot of help with my production and resources. I got about 2 factories that are my own lots. Then a friend of mine has 3 of his factories that are on his lots but I am able to use as well. So I have pretty decent amount of factories at my disposal. As for components, I'm not really sure if it's cost-effective or anything but I make a run of 1k of components (ie. soypro, carbosyrup, etc) and just use that to make my runs till i start running out. I make these with the factories I have available. As for how much food i produce, unfortunately I dont have too much resources to make 20-40 crate runs. So i just make about 5-15 crates of different foods and place em on my vendor.

As for flora, I harvest em myself w/ the help of my guild's lots as well if needed. As for BE components, I decided to go straight crafting so I mastered BE and make my own components. The meat, I mostly get guild hunts going and have them give me their meat for free (sorry fellas ). That's pretty much how I run my stuff. I think there is also a Chef Calculator stickied at the top of this forum. Never figured out how to work that out but I'm sure it's helpful.

First I'll say I have the advantage of having some friends place some factories for me.

Currently using 9 food and 1 clothing. I will probably be placing a few more factories as well. Its not so much that I need them, it is just easier with more factories. I can run 5-7 dfferent foods at the same time, stock them and then I'm free for a few days.

I harvest all my flora with very few exceptions.

I buy all my meat with very few exceptions. There is no way I would be able to harvest 60-100k meat a week myself. So unless it is a very godly spawn I usually don't even harvest any.

At 20-30cpu for meat, additives still come out cheap enough to make a large profit. I also did BE myself, mainly just for the convienence. 3-5 runs of BE tissues a week is a hard thing to come by.

I know many people don't have enough skill points to go around to Master BE and Chef.A 0/0/4/4 BE can actually make decent Tissues. I made up to 84%, but normally 80-82%.(84% requires very nice resources). All of those require patience in getting amazings successes, but it is still possible.

I usually run the components in the factory I will be making it in. Due to a factory bug I can rarely get 2 full runs in a factory. Usually 60-70 crates and the factory dies and I have to restart it. Moving 40 crates of something from the output hopper to the input hopper is easier than moving it from factory to factory as well. Obviously there are some cases this can't happen. For brandy I run the casks, tissues, alcohol all at the same time(or at least so they will finish on the same day). For BE food I might do that ahead of time. Run the additives. Put them in the input hopper, run all the components, then the final food. Just saves on the amount of moving crates I do.

I realize this is a much larger setup than a lot of people, I still have issues keeping somethings in stock(Canepe is absolutely horrible). I used to just mine resources, so I picked up the trait of strip mining stuff from that.

Wow I'm not at a point to do such huge runs. You must pretty well known in your server for doing a lot of runs. Good for you I say

I currently have 3 accounts, master chef/master doc, master BE/master rifleman, master swordsman/tailor/merchant.

I have 6 food and 1 clothing factories, 2 medium houses for storage and 1 merchant tent. That leaves me 18 lots for harvesters which I use constanty. I mine all of my own resources, except for the occasional purchase of power.

If I have the time I hunt for meat, milk, bone and hide, but I buy more than I harvest myself. Meat on Ahazi usally cost between 25 and 50 cpu.

I try to keep the 5 or 6 most popular foods and drinks stocked all the time and make others as time permits. Manufacturing the heavy and medium BE enhancements is the gating factor in my production since a full factory run of these takes FOREVER.

If I can't produce a top quality version of a particular food or drink (i.e. as good as you can find on the server) then I just don't make it.

I use 8 factories and most of the time, at least half of them are doing something, whether it's running subcomps or running additives or foods. At last count i had somewhere in the neighborhood of 27 different bioenhanced foods and beverages stocked on my vendor.

I use several different bioengineers, most of whom keep full factory runs of additives on hand because they know i like to order entire factory runs at the drop of a hat. Also, when i restock, i like to do so in bulk so that I can just restock and then not have to worry about it for a while.

I generally buy my meat and other creature harvestablesbecause between chef and certain *other* endeavors, i simply don't have the time to hunt or milk. However, reliable contract hunters are hard to find on Ahazi.

My selling patterns are rather erratic. Sometimes i'll be selling maybe 1-10 crates a day, and then suddenly, someone will swoop in and buy 10-20 crates. It's rather unpredictable and it's not always the same people either.

I don't have any factories designated for anything. As a matter of fact, i'm pretty disorganized lol. I've got scraps of subcomps, additives and tiny resource stacks littering my factory hoppers. My operation is quite messy but i do manage to keep everything orderly enough so that it doesn't kill my efficiency. I generally try to keep subcomps on hand. Factory hoppers are great for storing subcomps. I hope this helps, but I'm probably not the most organized chef so you may or may not want to take my advice.

I used to run 9 factories that were pumping out something 50-75% of the time but now I only use 6 which run constantly. I usually buy all of my resources because harvesting them all would be too much of a pain. I also had 4 or 5 BE's supplying me with 5-10 runs of tissues a week. When I say I run my factories constantly I mean constantly. I run components when my vendor is pretty much stocked up and just put them in backpacks to store on my vendor. Never wait until you need something to run it always think 2 steps ahead. I could probably cut down to 4 factories and still keep up because of the scheduling I have. Also get people to deliver to you whenever possible since in the time it takes for you to shuttle back and forth you could make a weeks worth of schematics. It requires a bit more organization to store stuff away rather than making it all in the same factory but the efficency I get makes it so much smoother. I'm also going to try to work on modifying my strat so that I can run nothing but components on the weekends and food during the week but the main hold up is additives since they take so long to run compared to components.

Runs of 1000

do you run it in the same factory as you plan on making the final food in?

If possible, but not all the time. I usually do run BE additives in the factory I plan on using them in.

do you have a couple factories designated for components? are you constantly producing food? or do you have to wait constantly for components, etc. to be finished or whatever.

Yes, I have 1 factory that almost exclusively makes trim and another that makes casks. THere are no designated factories for other food components.

how do you guys work with your resources?

I have a second account, where all 10 lots are dedicated to harvesting, I always make sure to place 5+ harvestors on only 1 spawn to gather as much as possible, though typically I place all 10 on one spawn.

the flora and such is a little easier to come by, but what about meats?

I have guild members who get me meat in very large quantities, but I am also pretty diligent about checking the bazaar and different vendors for some good deals.

does everyone just pay for their meats?

Sometimes

also, how do you work with your BE's?

I am my own BE, a recent skill point decision for me.

20k+ of meat is a lot of money to dish out for just a component, is this just something you figure into your cost?

Yes, all costs are passed on to the consumer, as well as a margin of profit.

is your additives something you have to kind of get when you can? (a good shift) or do you have a constant supplier of them?

Previous to this a constant supplier, BE Food and drink sells far better than it's non-BE counterpart.

I also have suppliers who deliver me milk, and sometimes I go out and hunt my own hide and meat, when I have time. I also currently have9 factories. Also my partner and I share all resources and I have access to his factories if need be. He also picked up tailor so we now have unlimited access to BE and Tailor.

wow, i cant tell you how helpful this has been to me, it makes me rethink how i've been running things. i have another question for you: on my server it seems like there have been about 2 good shifts of berries since the game started, and buying them costs A LOT. around 50-60 cpu. when finding good resources to buy, is it a matter of outbidding people for them? whoever has the larger pocket book wins? how do you handle situations like this?
