Thread: There's a new Master Chef in town
Congratulations !
It is encouraging to see that it is possible to sell food at a good price .... ![]()
I am still novice artisan on my way to become chef and I have problems to sell my stuff.
Which were your best sells and where did you sell it ?
I use credits per resource to calculate my 'target' price. This makes the most sense to me because I buy resources by credits/unit so it allows direct profit/loss comparison on any given price point.
Howevever as I state in my menu I do advertise that everything is priced based on an assumption of 5 charges per stack. Therefore if I get unlucky and get a stack with only 4 charges (usually only happens through bad experimentation failure) I either sell it at a discount or I put a _sample on the end of the name and give it away for free while I'm in town.
Most items require 2 - 4 exp points to get their stack size to 5, and the rest goes to duration and effect as needed to bring it up to my 'branded' standard for that item. If it happens to get 6 charges through an amazing success or something I typically don't charge any more /shrug.
Congrats
That's awesome!
I just got Mix I last night so I have a looong way to go ![]()
I'm charging 10 per resource used and I'm doing all right. Pet food is a significant portion of my sales (unfortunately). Other items *do* sell and when our Cantina opens here shortly I hope to promote my wares a bit more as well.
I charge lots for most stuff and have no problems selling lots.
Untill there are 100s of chefs around every corner there's not very many of us... take advantage of that fact and make some $ ![]()
I prefer to charge on a per serving basis myself. The customer doesn't know or really care what went into making the item. They just care about buff size, buff duration, and number of servings. That is how they judge value.
FYI, I once again had someone come in and buy stuff off my display vendor. Blasted barking quits after a couple hours I guess as I had the vendor set to tell people that these items are for display only. Anyhow, the guy paid 11,111 credits for a stack of 7 sunburns. I sent him a tell directing him to the booze vendor and tipped him back the difference between display price and retail price but it is clear that there are people willing to pay bodacious amounts for food and drink.

I don't think the 'credits/resource' method and the 'credits/charge' method of pricing are all that different. I'm guessing that the people that use 'credits/charge' method come up with their price/charge at least partially based off of resources used. /shrug
Another method I use to figure out what price the market will bear is leverageing the Bazaar. Now that I have an established vendor with some traffic, I primarily use the bazaar to 'test case' prices. I put items on the bazaar at WAY over what the prices on my vendor are. If people *still* snap them up off the bazaar then that gives me a strong indication that my vendor price point could be raised.
Plus it gives me a great advertising opportunity every time I see a bazaar purchase. I send each and every bazaar customer an email with a thank you and a small note to the effect of 'for discount pricing on this and other fine food & drink, visit my vendor at yadda yadda yadda...'
Gives the customer an incentive to run the extra few hundred meters outside of town to hit my vendor.

Using bazaar is a great idea. I just freeze up (1 FPS) so much after hitting a couple cities that I have tried to avoid them like the plague.
Hey gang, at long last I dinged Master Chef. I just want to give a bit of encouragement to those who are still grinding and are down by all the negativism about our class (much of it warranted).
I'm actually doing pretty good in my Chef business, Tat Sunburns& Pet Food are *not* my primary sales. We actually get some pretty darn good recipes. I think the key to having a successful Chef business is to have the guts to charge what it takes to survive. For me, this is between 10 and 20 credits per resource to make a food item! Yes you read that right, and yes I do have many customers. It takes a gut check sometimes to put what you feel is a high price on an item with a mediocre-at-best enhancement buff, but I just go into it with the attitude that if that item doesn't sell at the price I need, I simply won't make it anymore.
Time after time I am surprised that stuff I consider way too pricey and not likely to sell....actually sells!
So keep at it Chefs and don't be afraid to charge what it takes to survive (and thrive!)

For a list of the items that I sell a lot of, and an example of how I market them, you can check out this thread:

Could i get a tip on how to get a decent amount of recources to grind through chef? or is this a stupid question and the answer is get a medium flora harvester you asshat? anyway is there anything better than wastril bread for grinding?
What I did was browse the entire galaxy in the bazaar until I found someone with many different organics items up for sale in the 2cr/unit price range. I'd then note that person's name and send them email asking if they would sell thierlow quality organics(and its almost always junk...if its not, buy it immediately!) for less than 2cr a resource in very large quantities.
I make many 10k+ purchases of resources at 1cr/resource by contacting the sellers directly this way.

forgot to add Stewed Gewch is > Wastril Bread.
There are some recipes that give > xp than stewed gewch, but stewed gewtch has a couple of key advantages:
1) Very generic ingredients requirements...any organic and any water. Tends to be very cheap to buy in bulk
2) Can be fed to pets. Most recipes that give >xp than stewed gewch (Ithorian mist I think) are *drinks* and cannot be fed to pets for uxp. This won't matter to you if you use the evil little practice option, but if you have CH friends and family like I do you can make 150% xp by feeding your stewed gewch to pets.
