I think I'm going to stay out of that thread (not being on Corbantis or a doc), but here's what I think.

Food prices are very dependent on the creature resource market. Bivoli requires 30 units of carnivore meat, and it needs to be pretty high quality (900+ PE/OQ) to hit +25. Unless Dathomir has a good spawn (Rancor hunts), this gets pricy.

Plus, the heavy nutrients themselves range from 50-75k per crate.

Throw in factory maintenance and power (and a chef needs to do three subcomponent runs for bivoli), and these can end up costing over 100k per crate to make. If a chef actually bought carnivore meat at 250cpu (something I'd personally pass on), the cost of a crate jumps up to around 250k, and that's before any profit get's added.

Personally, I think very few chefs charge high prices just to price gouge, although you will find people like that in any crafting profession. It's tough to tweak prices to find that right balance between a decent profit margin and "what the market can bear", at least for me. The ones mentioned in that thread may have just adjusted too high, and could drop down a bit if/when their sales decrease.

Generally, check the prices of several Chef's - if they are all similar prices for similar level of produce, then there's a reason that prices have risen.

Many times it can be resource costs - such as when bazaar prices doubled instantly (instead of the stack size doubling) when the price cap was raised to 6k, other times it's inflation of prices overall - say a glut of cash in the economy, where (for example) WS's triple prices because they can get away with it, so AS's think "why shouldn't I get a cut of all this cash", then Doc's think the same, and it snowballs.

It could just be that Chefs on a particular server are snowed under with orders & sales, and can get away with higher prices due to a monopoly.

SWG mirrors real life economy quite a lot.

I must add, I am generally considered too cheap, so bear that in mind

I'm not sure what the market is like on your server, but that does seem a little high to me. I charge that for my +25/3 use stuff and I think that is high. The only reason I can partially justify my price is there are few chefs on my server who can make food of that quality. But 250k for +24/3 use? That may be a fair price on your server but I'd look around first.

/agree SciGuy as usual. People charge what the market will bear, and time is the most valuable commodity, even before resources. If you don't like the price, shop around, you'll either find something cheaper, or have to shell out. Fighters do the same for doc buffs, after all.

Holy #$%^ I am way undercharging lol. On shadowfire, I charge 125K for 25/3 use. We're not a cheap server.....maybe I should check the competitors' pricing better....

That does seem very expensive, on Cimaera I charge 80k-90k per crate.
That said, a lot depends on resource prices. Docs want the best bivoli out there, and meat harvesters often charge a lot.

On Cimaera, I see good carnivore meat going for up to 250cpu, so it may be worth checking what the meat situation is like, an dpossibly try to come to an agreement with a chef if you supply the meat etc.

/agree to above listing. I am a chef on Ahazi, and i sell my +25.1339 /2 use bivoli for 200k a crate. There's a guy, the most popular chef on Ahazi, who sells his +25/3 use for 250-300k a crate, only because he's popular and he knows it. lol.

I think my prices on Ahazi are good. The singles on my foods are from 6k to 8.5k. and i reduce the crate price by about 10% or so... e.g. I charge 7500 for a single of brandy, but charge 175k for a crate.

I responded to original post, not sure if you agree, but that is my opinion.

200k for +25/3 biv, 175k for +24, and 150k for +23.

Had some decent dath meat spawn (900+oq and 454 PE) but couldn't make +25 with that. Now some really good endor carn spawned I have been buying that at 15cpu.

Its true that you get 75 uses out of that entire crate, and then it goes on to say that this increases the cost of the buff by about 3300 credits (250k divided by 75). If you are just buffing yourself or one person and no one else, then this calculation holds true. I'm a doc, and don't use bivoli unless I'm buffing a bunch of my guildies or out in public, so in my particular case, the cost is reduced significantly...

It takes about 17 seconds to buff one stat, so a full set of buffs will take about 1.7 mins.

The Bivoli lasts 16 mins - not just for one use.

This means that in that 16 min duration, I can get in 8 full buffs easily in that duration.

3300 credits divided by 8 buffs = 400 credits extra per buff.

Like everyone above me has said, the market will take it if there a need.

If I've got a special request from someone for some uber buffs, and they're willing to pay a higher cost for me to eat some bivoli, then I pass on the cost to them.

I dont charge more then 125k a crate on ahazi for any of my foods/drinks.

Think of it this way, a crate of BE brandy takes something like 8380 of raw resources with gemstones for casks, meat and water for addatives, organic for addatives, the fruits and berries, plus the subcomponents for alcohol's. I am a 12 point crafter, and have houses full of the best chef's resources to spawn on ahazi. I dont feel a need to charge 125k for my goods, as that is still 15x the cost of any item I produce. Icen does so well at higher prices because he advertises constantly. I do well because of my pricing scheme. I could play dirty and start having a big advertising campaign, but that would put every other chef on ahazi out of buisness, which would take the fun out of chef crafting, and make it a job.

If time is an issue then why aren't you mixing havla with your bivoli when you're selling buffs? I still don't understand why I see 3 Docs in front of the Coronet Starport with 20 people sitting around them. Eat your bivoli, eat your havla and clear out Coronet with 5 minutes to go on your Bivoli and less time spent sitting there. Plus I like to imagine another use for my havla other than it being used by CM's on me to poison and disease all my ham bars in 3 secs.
