Thread: Carbineer Advice
I am a Master Ranger and was originally going for Master Carbineer as well. I've since decided to take a bit of Squad Leader so I need to take some points from Carbine. As I'm keeping Master Ranger and going SL 4/0/0/0 for now I have 41 points left over for Carbineer.
I currently have 3/3/1/3 aiming for 4/3/0/4 and I'd like some advice from the masters out there. Am I missing out with the counter-attack skill and defence mods of Infiltrator?

I'm not a master carbineer (yet) but, as far as I know, they counter-attack skill isn't working properly. Rather, it's just a dodge, not really a counter attack. Also, from what I've heard, burst shot isn't as impressive as crippling shot, per se, and Supression Fire 2 isn't really any better than Supression Fire 1 (if you happen to have that).
That line has been the least appealing to me so it has been the last one I have tried to tackle. I'm sorry I can't tell you much about it, but I've been quite happy with Action Shot 2 and Charge Shot.
(By the way, you could get both of those with only 3 boxes in carbineer.)
The infiltrator line(or counterinsurgency) is the worst of all carbine lines, excepting Burst Shot 1.
Burst Shot 2 does no more or the same damage as Burst Shot 1, apparently its some ongoing joke with carbineers, where they just renamed the skills but didnt change any numbers, like Legshot3.
Supression Fire 2.. well I've never actually used it. Never had a need to. I can just use action shot. Does the same thing + bleed.
The title is.. nice?
Counterattack is just a dodge, I havent been able to test out the new mod(105 counterattack) so thats up in the air as to whether its useful or not.
If you need those skill points, I dont think your missing out on much at all, seeing as how they could be spent elsewhere and probably be a lot more useful than gaining block and some **edit**ty skills
As a former Master Carbineer, dump everything except Burstshot. Than pick up Novice BH and buy your way up the carbine line. You'll be much happier, and get some weapon certifications too boot!
I was a BH Carbineer IVbut it just didnt feel right calling myself a Carbineer when all my speed, accuracy, and knockdown/dizzy specials came from the BH tree. So I dropped BH and MM and joined the pure 'not so good with a carbine' Carbineer club. Yup I'm now slower, less accurate (this may have been fixed today?),unable to knockdown while kneeling or prone, and no longer have the capability to dizzy. But hey, it can only get better right ![]()
Anyway back to my advice search. With the addition of +25 accuracy in marksmanship IV it's looking to be a bigger bang for point than the other level IV boxes. My original plan (41 points) of 4/3/0/4 may be better replaced with 3/4/0/4 or 4/4/0/3. So again to the Master Carbineers, how useful are Wildshot2 and ChargeShot2?

You go to solo a fambaa who has his 4 fambaa friends 60-70m behind him. This is usually enough distance to initiate a KD slaughter without his buddies going aggro. Using Chargeshot 2 you will ALWAYS miss the selected fambaa target, and knockdown 2 or 3 of his buddies, which then go aggro on you. Nothing like 4 pissed off fambaa stomping all over you.
This could be very useful if you could fire on one of your own pets. Send out a rock beetle after a group of graul and spam the beetle with chargeshot2 to kd all the graul - unfortunatly it doesnt work like that. You end up defensless against your target and making things worse by pissing off the targets buddies.
I've tried Chargeshot2 - It don't work.
Wildshot2 - Best support AoE shot - follow this by a fullautoarea2
Only if Chargeshot 2 did the same as these 2 shots - I would be happy - well if Chargeshot2 worked - I would be happy.
As for infilitator Line - It helps now
It'll say "*insert mob* shoots you, but you shrug if off"
It'll be more effective if it actually shot back - get an xtra turn in shooting -
Legshot3 - ummm yeah okay it's been beaten to death but still (This is not AoE)
Burstshot2 (good - lower modifer then cripple shot - also doesn't give the aim, aim being important)
I dunno I dropped down from Carbines speed +105 to +65 (dropping BH carbine) - and I notice and it Hurts not to mention the AIM bounus also - used to miss maybe 10 to 15% of the time now it's like 25 to 35%... but in dreams of being a Jedi - Armorsmith Here I come!
