Thread: Advice Needed on Carbineer

I'm looking into the carbineer profession, wondering about their strengths/weaknesses and looking for feedback.

I'm a master dancer with minor medic skills currently working up the rifle tree (2312). I'm really finding that rifles aren't right for me. As a dancer, I'm the mind buffer, not the buffed, and rifles are too mind-draining to really fight unbuffed. Also, dancers are more... urban... and in the cities, I'm hard pressed to get enough range between me and my target to have decent range modifiers.

Finally, rifle abilities are often best used prone and aiming. When attacked in cantinas, I'm more likely to fight a running retreat- not compatible with rifles very well.

So, my questions:
It looks like carbines are more Action-draining (a stat that dancers have pretty high already) Is that accurate?
I've heard about the remarkable drain that carbines can have on the HAM- I'm not usually buffed while entertaining- can't afford it. Is it too crippling?
How is a non-master carbineer? My play time's been limited, so it will likely take a LONG time to reach master...
What branch of the skill tree would you recommend?

yes

Well,

when you get attacked while entertaining, you are likely not wearing your composite armor as well, ...

I suggest you just use a DH17 short/snub carbine. They have no armorpiercing (so not that powerful on armored targets), but have low ham and actually good damage (on unarmed targets).

Just chargeShot, and fullAutoSinge2, spam spam, burstShot1. It is actually not that bad on your HAM.

(Even though I am not so high level as carbineer I am carbineering since August, I just skill slowly, and I am usually not buffed: that means, when I say "not that bad" it's just cause I am used to it, and the HAM drain is is horrible, LOL.)

Start with 0011.

The last tree "special attacks" is with combat xp, so won't conflict with the other carbineer tree-skilling.
The first box gives you the area-state-change attack.

The third tree "counterinsurgency" gives you mitigation1 on the first box as well as "burstShot1" which is one of our best damage attacks.

"burstShot1" is also more health-draining than action, so coupled with the singleFullAuto2 from your novice box you have two good single-target specials.

After 001x it is really up to you what to do with your carbineer xp.

I went up the "counterinsurgency" tree and I am content with it. The third box gives the area variant of the burst-shot, as well as ranged mitigation2,

Please keep in mind with my advise, that I have no experience with the other trees. - Though 001x is the common advise.

Evy.
