Thread: Idea-carbine specific powerup/permanent add-on
Grenade launcher attachment for carbines:
Form #1-A temporary powerup made by weaponsmiths. Usable by anyone with a carbine, it changes the damage type to blast, adds +150 min/max, and *adds* 1.0 speed and 20/20/20 HAM. It has minimum 50 uses, able to be experimented up. This would be a great addition to the carbineer arsenel, making us the only elite ranged profession with a blast damage weapon.
Form #2-A permanent added into the weapon schematic, permanently changing damage to blast, adding +100 min/max, adding no speed and no HAM. It is basically the end reward for an "epic" carbineer quest, obtainable only by master carbineers. This would be a great addon for the carbineer profession, giving us a much-needed edge over the other ranged elites.
The quest for form #2 would be extremely hard and long, making the addon, while powerful, very rare.
If ya think its a good idea, or if you have any other ideas to add on, please post.
I think it would be better to fix the weapons we have instead of inventing new powerups that 'uberfy' our weapons.
Throw one of those powerups on a Nym Slugthrower and you'll have a Carbine IV Marksman doing 3k damage with overcharge shot... every second. Too many problems it can cause, and too many complaints as well. I can just hear what everybody else will say if the carbines get a special powerup that ONLY they can use.
We need balance, not a gift from god.

If they aren't broken then I don't understand this attempt to 'fix' them.
- Our weapons have higher HAM costs (respectively) than any other guns in the game.
- Many of our guns have damage comparable to pistols at a much lower speed.
- Others are supposed to have bonuses that are broken (remember EE3 area cone damage)
- We're the only ranged class without a stun weapon.
- etc....
There are significant problems with the weapons we've been given... I assumed that your proposal for super powerups was an attempt to fix these issues. I now understand that you made this suggestion to give us insanely good guns as a compensation for our other weaknesses.
I would prefer having those other weaknesses fixed as well, instead of trying to compensate by boosting something else.

I personally would much prefer a blast damage weapon over a stun damage one, because stun is limited in its usage i.e. great for PvP against armored opponents, but thats about it. Blast damage is perhaps the most useful damage type in the game (swordsmen are capable of soloing krayts with a PH, and you don't see fencers soloing krayts with their stun batons do ya?)
also, the temporary powerups would be extremely resource heavy, making them an expensive proposition, to be used only in extreme situations. The permanent one would be extremely hard to get (and i mean EXTREMELY), so these are more of an augmentation, not a fix for our problems. I never suggested them as such, just as a unique ranged weapon for our profession.
