Quests for ProfessionsVision Document

Overview:

Having "profession specific quests" that would need to be completed in order to advance past each skill box once the necessary xp is obtained for that specific skill box. This could be a keyfor profession advancement and take away from the standard grind that SWG is trying to shy away from, and add to Immersive gameplay.

  • Specific's
  • Summary
  • Pro's
  • Con's
  • Feedback
  • Conclusion

Specific's:

With the skill boxessetup the way they are in each profession.Have it so that rather than just grind xp to get to the next box, once you get the necessary xp for that box in order to advance to the next skill box you have to complete a "profession specific quest".This would engage each player in a series of story driven profession specific quests, and add to the immersion forSWG. Once completed you are then trained in that skill and advanced to the next box. They coulddo this for each box all the way up the skill tree until you get to the master level.Youcould then do a, "Master quest" at the end that they have to complete in order to gain the title of master for that profession. This "Master Quest" could be the ultimate tie in for all the previous quests done to give an ultimate feel of accomplishing the mastery of that profession. It has the potential to pull players away from the standard grind and engage in more diverse activities and immerse themselves more into the game.

Summary:

  • "Profession Specific Quest's" for advancement through the skill tree boxes. You must complete quest to advance!
  • "Master Quests" for an ultimate tie in for all the previous profession quests done for all skill boxes.
  • Immersion/Grinding solution to all professions.
  • Story driven

Pro's:

  • Implementation: GCW/Combat revamp
  • Immersion into that specific profession and it's abilities
  • Story driven
  • Take away the "Grind" normality of all professions
  • Many diffrent ways to implement (ex: One quest to complete for "Mastery skill box", or quests for every other box)
  • Great integration with GCW/Combat revamp,and noncombat/combat professions.
  • Tasks and items achieved through quests for that specific profession
  • Stronger community with professions/better feeling of "Accomplishment"

Con's:

  • Resources/time available for possible development

Feedback:

  • What do you think about this as a system they could implement for profession revamps?
  • What further changes could be made to better this type of system?
  • What type of quests would you like to see for your specific profession as a means of advancement?

Ex: (Bounty Hunter Investigation1 skill box quest: The Character could talk to a bounty hunter trainer to obtain his quest to learn how to make use of his tracking abilities for bounties usingdroids. Throughout the quest hewould have to make contact with various"underground" contacts which eventuallyallows the BH to obtain info on how to use his tracking droids and how to track his prey. The end of the quest could eventually lead to his target via his contacts and he would have to accomplish a series of tasks once at his final target and bring back proof to his trainer so that he maybe advanced to Investigation 2 and further his training).

Conclusion:

These quests should be done to tailor to the needs of that profession, and make use of that profession specific weapons/abilities. Whether it is a combat class or non-combat class.

(not sure if this has been stated before but it seems like a good idea)

Ayami - MCH since september '03 and until NGE.
The removal of CH and the NGE in general is the dumbest thing a company has ever done. period.
CH deserves to stay, and SOE deserves to be *#&$^#*@ until they are #*&$& and then *#&$ some more!
LONG LIVE THE CREATURE HANDLERS!!!

- I support a rollback and keeping & balancing the old combat system.
...and making SWG a better place to be.

That sounds really cool but what if instead it was only for the Master level boxes and/or Master Profession....then ap points would still be needed and available but there would be more to things then. Imagine people actually Mastering a profession and then keeping it instead of dropping it within a week to go do something totally different.

Yes! There is so many possibilities with this type of system they could implement. Perhaps not for every single box but just for a few or just for the master box. This system in my eyes is a perfect way to create devotion and dedication to ones profession and have it mean something. Instead of....."Ohhh look another mastered profession down.....looks like it is on to my next one!"
