Thread: Nym's Slug Throwing Carbine is Amazing!
Sorry about the empty post - I hit the enter key by accident.
Anyway, I found out something truly amazing about Nym's Slug Throwing Carbine last night. What's that, you ask? Certainly, it can't be the damage- it's nice, but not AMAZING. It can't be that it does acid damage, the DXR-6 does that. And it definitely can't be the HAM costs - they're WAY too high. So what can it be?
Well, the thing that makes it so wonderful is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO REQUIRED SKILL to use it. I handed this weapon to my friend last night who is a 0/0/0/0 marksman (yup, that's right, he's got novice marksman and 0 marksmanship experience). We wandered outside of town and I told him to shoot and some goofy spider. Sure enough, he did 200 (just a basic attack - no special) damage and killed the thing in one blast. ![]()
So, what makes it so amazing?!? Obviously, it's the ability to get someone from 0/0/0/0 marksman to novice carbineer in no time flat. To most of us (as we're already carbineers), it's probably a moot point, but the possibility is still there.
Is this what the devs intended? Probably not - I just thought I'd bring it up.
It's a SPECIAL type of unique carbine.Ideally, itshould be certified for Carbineers ONLY.
In fact, I may even agree if they put the certification for the Marksman Skill "Carbines 4". That's ok with me, so long as the player is actually making the effort to take up knowledge of carbines.

I'd tend to agree. I'd like to see a "Special Carbines Cert" available at Novice Carbineer. Then, this (and any other carbines they want to throw our way *hint* *hint*) could use that cert.
My guess is that, for this one special carbine, they didn't want to add an extra cert so they simply removed the cert requirement.
I really only thought about this because I got this carbine and saw that I wasn't certified to use it. I thought, "Gee - I'm a 4/4/2/4 carbineer. Do I really have to be a master to use it?" Well, just for kicks, I decided to use it - no message saying I wasn't certified and I could certainly do full damage with it. That got me wondering who else could use it.
I've heard other people say they can use the Republic Blaster (I think that's the right name), which is a special pistol, without even having marksman. I imagine this carbine is the same way.
I dunno, the republic blaster is usable by everyone.
And the zicx bug bomb grenade you get in the quest EITHER requires a thermal detonator cert, or no cert at all (I'm not going to use it though to find out). But the Rantok sword does have a cert.
So there's really no rhyme or reason in quest weapon certs.
Nym's carb good for one thing only: hanging on a wall....
It's kinda like the german lugar; one of the rarest, most expensive unique guns, but complex and not reliable in battle...
I think they figured that since it was a theme park reward, they would make it useable by anyone who could complete the quest.
Personally, I think its a pretty decent weapon. Its not up to the quality of your typical master weaponsmith, but its certainly light years ahead of previous 'quest rewards.' Anyone care for a broken datapad? Or a CDEF that a novice artisan can do better?
That being said, I still don't actually use it in combat. I mainly equip it in town for the oohs and aahs. It is a pretty cool looking thing if nothing else!

boy, i speak so hastly sometimes. i like it, sliced with some power ups, it's preety handy
You have to drag-drop the droid part on the NPC... if you talk to him it won't complete the quest.
And any other info you need on the carbine can be found here:
