Thread: The SINGLE worst thing about being a carbineer is...

You absolutely positively can't hunt solo or without a pet.

Just a few thousand xp away from master, and I gotta tell you, I love being a carbineer. I know my specials, and I know when to use them. Our specials don't cost any Mind (unless you're mind stats are VERY LOW).

My biggest complaint... all these creatures peg as BLUE to me, but if they touch me, I'm dead. As long as I can keep at least 20 meters between me and ANYONE, I usually win. But less than that...

BTW, here's a trick I use a lot: To make a MOB switch targets off a player and onto a pet, command a melee pet to attack a MOB. Then, Chargeshot1 the MOB. As long as your melee pet is closer to the MOB than anything else, the MOB will now target your pet.

Three things I wish for in the carbineer profession:

1) to be able to target behind you.

2) Chargeshot2 to act just like Chargeshot1 for multiple targets.

3) to get at least a little melee defense.

Well, I disagree about the soloing thing.

When I was Master Ranger/1/4/0/0 Carbineer/Medic, I could solo a single creature (I'm talkin 10k HAM on Adv Planets) because I knew how to use traps and kite...

Now I'm 2/4/3/4 Doctor/ 3/4/3/3 Carbineer and I can still solo 10k's, I just buff and heal.

So, I AGREE, you will USUALLY always need some sort of compliment to Carbineer, in your case you choose a Pet...

To anwer the post...

The single worst thing is the HAM costs...but that is soon changing, for the better? we shall see...

The worst thing about being a carbineer in this game is being a carbinier.

I disagree with Chargeshot2 being like Chargeshot1 only AoE. Make Chargeshot1 work properly and then make Chargeshot2 work like Chargeshot1 AoE. In fact on that note, fix our specials!!! but meh for knowi have enough to get the job done andi am content

I love being a carbineer as well, my only wish is for a little more defences to help us stay on our feet in PvP.

to solo your way to mastercarbineer, all you have to do is be a master medic too. good kinetic ubese helps alot, but isnt necessary. took me about a month of playing a couple hours a day, but i did it.

Sure you can hunt solo...the trick is a stat migration. Not enough people understand how your stats actually work and don't know that you can almost entirely negate the high HAM costs of carbines with a significant stat migrations.

That said, I started as a Carbineer back in Sept and gave up Carbineer because I always got incapped by white-con'd MOBs spamming LegShot3. My specials were taking 15-25% of my Action bar and a Blue Con'd Female Kaadu would incap me. Spiked Krevol lairs (white con) pushed me over the edge. I got so angry I dropped all 4 boxes of the profession I had acquired and moved to Bounty Hunter.

Then I learned...

Do a MAJOR stat migration to push your strength, quickness and focus to their maximum values. This makes the Carbineer HAM costs affect you a lot less. Using Breath Of Heaven you can give these stats an even higher push for about 7-10 minutes. When wearing a set of ubese or my partial set of composite (I'm twi'lek so my stats don't let me wear full composite unbuffed) my HAM bars move very little when spamming specials because these stats are at max value and buffed with BOH.

Nerf your constitution, stamina, and willpower to the minimum you need to wear armor with just a little over so you can slowly regenerate damage while wearing armor (10-25 points over is usually sufficient). These stats only affect regeneration/healing rate so they really don't matter in combat. Using an armor macro to switch off your armor quickly between encounters is key to healing.

Take your remaining points and balance them between Health, Action and Mind. I'd recommend giving your Action 100 over Health and Mind below health. You can also drop your mind to minimum and use fishak and/or muon to boost it in battles while taking those extra points and applying them to your Health and Action.

This is all advice for PvE but if you PvP a lot you probably rely on buffs. In that case put your Mind, Focus, Willpower, Strength, Consitution, Quickness and Stamina at MAX with any remaining in Health/Action then rely on your doc and entertainers to give you good buffs. Mind is the key to PvP because it can't be healed so you want those stats highest. Simply put, migrate your mental stats to max then your remaining secondaries to max for most effective regeneration and minimum HAM costs.

I'd REALLY recommend getting Novice Medic 2200 or better and carry a crate of stim B's. The first skill line in medic determines how effective your medicine is. The second determines how quickly you can apply it. You'd be amazed what you can tank in a set of armor with Muon, stims and a "/ui action targetSelf; /healDamage;" macro on a hotkey with just Medic 1000.

Now I've picked Carbineer back up (as a BH it was my favorite weapon -- and I have 5 Nym's Carbines) and am moving up fairly quickly toward Master. I Mastered Bounty Hunter a few weeks ago and learned the secrets of stat migrations over the past few months. Now when I spam LegShot3 with my Strength, Quickness and Focus at maximum while wearing composite or Ubese my ham hardly moves...when I use Breath of Heaven they are barely affected at all by any of the specials.
