I like crippling shot but it's random and does about 1500 give or take top end. (PvE)

I'm not all that familar with other classes but in PvP (75% reduction)

I've been hit for 966 from a rifleman with adv strafe

been hit in the 800's from a smuggler with last ditch

550's from a swordsman...I think it was a scalping move

So what is the Carbine Bad@ss move?

Crippling shot.

You get hit as hard as you do on those that you mentioned (I'm assuming you're complaining because these are post-nerf?) because of the high AR -- that 966 in PvP was undoubtably an AR3 T-21, and many swordsman weapons are AR2 and very high damage -- these weapons take high damage in exchange for fewer status and posture options -- neither has a knockdown move, to my understanding.

And then Smuggler is a supplemental profession (something there should be more of -- non-weapon oriented professions that have a line of modifier-less combat skills to complement a weapon profession with wider variety of moves), and has nice moves due to that as well.

Talk to some folks with good laser carbines -- they'll tell you their max cripple is in the low 3k range or so, which translates to ~750 with the PvP modifier in place. Considering that carbines don't seem designed to be focused on single-target damage, that's not shabby IMO. And before you point out that not every cripple (especially with a laser) is 750/3k, let me remind you that you're taking the highest you've been hit for as well as your point of comparison, certainly not the average.

Blarg. Had a mental lapse, crippling won't do 3k, that's a headshot, whoops. I blame sleep deprivation. Still, I know I've seen folks reach 2k with it, which matches the 500 in PvP you quote the swordsman getting. And I'm pretty sure people have squeezed out numbers that probably approach 2.5k or so. Still, the point is, 1500 can be topped, you just need a better weapon -- but you're using the right move to do it.

Sorry kafis but I've hit 4400dmg with crippling shot with a 48-316 laser carbine. I'm sure I could hit 5000 with the right powerups.

The best I've seen from my powered-up laser carbine was ~3800.

Bangolo, that sounds a little high. Crippling shot has a modifier of about 7.5. You should be hitting about 1000 less than that.

316 damage

+30% damage powerup: 411

7.5x crippling shot: 3081

AR2 vs AR0: 4806

Or about 5k.

AR2 + Power up + KD target + No armor on Target = massive damage.

The 7.5x mod on cripple shot should be about right, it's just from shooting the thing for long enough until eventually you'll figure out approximately what your max damage with it is. Then it's just the max damage divided by your weapons max damage and you have the mod. Cant get an "exact" number of course but that should be close enough

You can hit with 3500-4000 with a Crippling shot with a damage sliced and damage boosted Laser Carbine that is well made, however, that is no where near the average.... laser carbines tend to do anywhere from 10-100% of their max damage, which means that you will get those 3000 point hits, but you'll get 300 point hits just as often.

The average is much closer to 1500 or so, and it's non-targeted, so expect to hit all three of their HAM bars and not be able to target a single one out.
