Thread: Thinking About Carbineer and Would Like Some Input

Well, to give you my perspective, I began the game focused on being a meleer. I made it to novice pikeman and realized that I couldn't do PVP at all. So, Carbine I went. I'm at carbine spec (level 4 of marksman), and I mainly use my laser carb, since the dmg on it is uncomparable.

Pros for me:

No longer have to worry about aggro nearly as much. Warningshot is a beautiful thing.

Damage to target/damage to me is much less as a ranged fighter.

My ActionShot 1 and 2 pack a tremendous wallop when I get the maxes out of them (sometimes one-hit kill whitecons).

I can run and attack at the same time.

Cons for me:

As a Pikeman, I could use Polearm sweep, and effectively take out three female direcats and a direcat (personal experience). That raw, brutal power was amazing. Not being able to take on whole groups at once is saddening.

Other than that, I do not regret making the move to carbineer. Riflemen have expensive guns (friend paid 100k for a T21, since they just came out on my server), pistoleers are going to get nerfed. Carbineers are going to get fixed, and that is what has me happy.

When the broken skills are all fixed carbine should be pretty effective: the dizzy effects don't work now, but when it does this class may have enough power to justify the screwy ham costs and slow speed. As of right now though the riflemen can target mind which is unhealable in combat making them more deadly in pvp except against melee'ers. Pistol attacks do nearly the same damage twice as fast making them more effective all around. Carbine/CH/Medic should be pretty potent as a fighting only set up. Advanced medics (Combat medics/Doctors) are much more effective healers than basic medics though so when you are fighting high level mobs you will still need them around to be safe. Honestly though Pistol/CH/Medic would probably be stronger. Attacking the health pool will make you more group friendly than the carbine's action pool concentration, you will take less melee damage, your HAM costs will be lower and you will do more damage over time due to faster attack speed until the very highest levels of mastery when attack speeds even out somewhat.

People who say carbine’s sucks just don’t know how to use them. A weapon type doesn’t have to dish out the most damage to be as effective or more effective than the other weapons types.

If you’re going for solo strength go with Pistoler or Rifleman. But if you want a weapon that was intended, and does, work best in groups, Carbine is your choice.

One Carbineer vs. One Pistoler or Rifleman will most likely loose. Five Carbineers vs. Five Pistolers or Riflemen will be victorious. It’s all about the cone attacks.

Why does everyone think carbines are supposed to be for groups!? Where are you getting this idea!?

My Experience (I was a TKM/Ranger/Medic on Sunrunner) and I am currently a Apprentice Carbineer (working on Novice) on Test Center. From my POV, I love every minute of being a Carbineer. I take a lot of suggestions from these boards as I feel that I belong to these now. One of the suggestions is that I currently have 4 different kinds of Carbines all with their advantages/disadvantages (preparation on hunts). I can solo many creatures, but tend to be considered a "necessity" in groups (people need me ). I love how Carbines are fast AND they have the range/damage of rifles (almost). I feel that they are the fastest/most balanced ranged class in the game. Oh and to make a suggestion. Don't drop BH, instead keep your Carbine tree in BH and augment your Carbineer tree and you will be a Hybrid Buff. Just a suggestion (rather than throwing all the hard BH work away).

I'm thinking of dropping my BH/CH and going with Carbineer/CH/Medic. Soooo...looking at the Carbineer profession as it stands right now, today, please give me your honest opinion...is it a good class? Would you do it again if you were starting over today and knew what you know now?

What about with the upcoming changes? Will it be a better class or worse? Are the knockdown timer nerfs really going to hurt the Carbineer badly?

How do you guys feel about the attention you're getting from your developer at SoE? Is he/she listening to you guys and are they getting good feedback to your correspondent?

Frankly the BH class is absolutley porked. It's in a sad state of dissaray and although I love the idea behind the class in terms of the role play aspect, the cost of the skill points to master it just isn't worth the end result anymore. There's no bang for the buck. So I'm heading in another direction and I'm looking for the honest opinion of you guys. I always loved my carbine and thought I'd ask here what you guys think of your own class.

Thanks for your time.

Skipping BH as well, simply not enjoyable any longer. I´m going for Doctor/Carbineer atm. I have to say that it´s fun for me. Like the long range of carbines and since I´ve not skipped Underhandshot so far I´m not that bad at pvp. When the Devs will fix the remaining issues concerning carbs it will be one of the best combat classes I think. What is important for me is to have medic skills since you lose a hell of a lot of your Ham bars when doing carbineer speials, nonetheless it´s nice and enjoyable.

if you want to help PL a n00b medic (or even an experienced doctor!) take 'em hunting with you and just hose down the mobs like there's no tomorrow, until they run out of mind pool. killing grondas/war grondas on corellia for about 2 hours, i got a medic from firstaid2 only to firstaid4 diag3 pharm1. i have no clue why i'm posting this under this thread, i blame massive sleepiness, and an inabilty to sleep.
