Thread: What kind of slice is best on a laser carbine?
Speed or max damage? Im thinking speed. Also, can you repair sliced weapons?
what happens in a slice is completely random. my best freind irl is a master smuggler, and his computer is 5 feet from mine, and i've watched him do it. his results tend to be about 66% speed, 34% damage. also, using his non-experimented, pos clamps tends to produce the best results. out of 20 tries, 16 were 30%+ with the crap ones. with his top-of-the-line, best materials he could find fairly easily, amazing success experimentation, out of 20 tries, 8 were 30%+. armor-slicing was roughly the same...i wasn't paying attention to those attempts though, so i can't speak for them, really.
what you should slice for depends entirely on the weapon. if its got a realy nice damage range, but is slow, you want speed. if its fast, but has low damage, you want damage. if both suck, get a new carbine =). orwishfor speed.
sliced weapons CAN be repaired, with the same risk as all other weapons.
laser carbine needs a Speed Slice and a Min Max powerup
or a Dmg slice with a Min Speed powerup
Speed is nice. A laser carbine needs speeds, so a speed slice is very good.
I got my already speedy EE3 (2.8) sliced down to 1.9. Very nice I must say. I got some powerups to add to that as well. And its heat damage, fewer armors resists that it feels like.
I think damage slice with max damage powerup is the way to go.
1) speed burns ham faster. so damage is better to powerup/slice.
2) imo adding a percent increase to your max damage increases your DPS more than adding a percent increase to your min damage... following the formula min + max / speed^2 -- since 33% of the max is higher than 33% of the min, the dps would raise more. assuming this formula is accurate, which it seems to be.
Speed IMO is the way to go with laser carbines, dunno what the best speed laser carbine can get, but highest i have found on tempest is 3.5, got it sliced to 2.5, than put a 33%speed to make it 1.7 or around there, the weapon speed cap is 1 so im hitting around that with BH tree, and novice carbineer, all i do is knockdown, then spam the normal shots, its insane how fast i rack up damage with just normal shots, or knockdown and than full auto2, i inc'd someone with that faster than a doctor could heal, with stim b's or c's, healing aroudn 400-500, cranked out 300-400 a shot(was pretty lucky), sometimes got in 200's, but all did it insanely fast, not to mention the "dizzy blind stun" messages like crazy.
Damage does help some, but if you are hitting a lot faster than the person you are fighting, with the 75% reduction in duels, and the big range of a laser carbine's damage, since this is a LASER carbine thread question, i would say speed(mainly because of its very low minimum damage) maybe if you have a minum up in the 120+'s than it would be more worth it for damage, with all the randomness, you have a better shot if your shooting faster, also, if you do have all into carbine speed, and bh tree probably a dmg powerup with speed slice, or vise versa.
just my two cents though, everyone has their own way of playing.
-mainy reason i like speed is because yes, it burns ham faster, yes damage gives you more damage per powerup, but... mainly, whoever gets the first knockdown wins(or at least when i fight someone 1v1 thats how it works) specially when doing normal shots doesnt burn ham, and you can pump those out just as well.
Marn, I think your right. Busting a Posture Change right off the bat, then cranking out random shots at uber speed with a Laser Carbine will shred anything... If you throw in 2 or 3 FullAutoSingle2's you are looking at massive damage.. Dont kill your action pool so you can run away ifneed be... but, under the circumstances the uber speed on a Laser-C will really make the difference. Fireing that thing like a scout blaster doing random damage from 250-800+ is very rewarding... especially if you stack the bleeds...

I hence like damage slices better, because you can always add speed bonuses that dissapear (since it eats up your HAM horribly)
Thats just my .02 credits.
If you're just mastering carbineer, at master you have +60 speed mod so the point in weapon speed where you start "wasting" speed should be 2.5 delay on your carbine. If its lower than that, its somewhat "wasted". (60% off 2.5 = 1.0, which is the cap. It still affects specials for a while after that, but it still makes speed less effective after that point.)
On the other hand, if you're getting the BH carbine skills on top of carbineer, forget the delay on your gun. It wont matter, at all. You could have a 15.0 speed carbine and it'd still fire the same speed as your 1.7 speed one.
