For weapons, DOT Strength = how much damage it does each tick of the DOT. In my opinion, for health or action, you need around 200 strength to make it even worth using, 50 for mind.. but the higher the better, of course =)
DOT Potency can be used as a rule of thumb for determining if the DOT will take hold on the target. 50% potency means that on average, it should stick 50% of the shots fired.. in pvp, you'll need a potency of 70+ to make it worth using, with 100+ causing a DOT to stick most of the time.
Most of the dot ranged weapons I see for sale on my server are pretty useless in general (strength < 50, potency < 10), but some people don't seem to realise how crap that sort of weapon is and put it up for sale on a vendor for 50k - 100k+ price.. but then you have to keep in mind that anything with a stronger dot than that is rare, and probably worth a couple of hundred k to a pvper or someone who fights a lot of high ham creatures.
Of course, this is all purely my personal feelings, someone else may have a different take on things =)

I want a low damage but high potency dot carbine. I dont care if it does 1 pt of damage, I just want it to stick often. AoE something and watch the docs panic as everyone is poisoned.

I have a laser carb that only has 8% potency, but it has 267 strength. I use it leading off in PvP and it is usually stuck by the time I have them stunned, dizzied, and KDed.

Out of curiosity, what is generally considered to be a good and what is considered to be a great poison DOT weapon? Assuming you have unlimited charges, you weapon fires at maybe 3.0 speed, and the weapon has no meaningful damage and moderate HAM costs.
Of course there is a trade off between potency and effectiveness (10% potency 10000 effectiveness is excellent no matter how you look at it, despite the low potency), but what kind of numbers should somebody look for for apoison DOT weapon? Just some rough numbers would be appreciated.

Personally, I consider anything over 100 usefull,150-200 good, and 250+ great. The best mind DOT weaponI have is a 110 mind poison Janta knife. I also havetwo Gaffy sticks, one does 100-something health poison, and the other does 100-something action poison.

I assume you are talking about effectiveness. What about potency?
Thanks for the information.

Ah, my bad... yeah, I was talking about effectiveness. Potency should be at least in the 60%+ range (maybe 50s), but preferably in the 70s or higher.

I got it off a Janta months ago. Never had much use for it since I wasn't a Master. I see it every so often when I go to my safe deposit box, but I never remember to grab it.
Its not an awesome poison, just unlimited.
