Im currently a MRM/MBH and a mixture of a few novice lines. Ive become very frustrated with Rifleman being that our only attack which gives us a greater damage output than a Carbineer is broken and our only profession-defining special is also broken. Im considering respecing into MC/MBH/MM, with the rest in scout(Ive tried the pistol root in PvE and to be honest, I dont find it that useful, and as I dont PvP I dont see the need for it), but my character is a Trandoshan Hunter/Slaver, and I dont really want to give up using the Trando Hunting Rifle, LD-1 and Falaan Hyper Rifle when Im out RPing a creature hunt.
So then, my question is this: Can a MBH/MC/MM combo still use high CL-certed rifles(40-54) with reasonable effectiveness in PvE? At some point in the far distant future I hope to lay my hands on some Rifle and General speed/acc tapes, which would place me at only a slight disadvantage compared to a MRM/MBH, but until then, is it feasible?

Depends on what you want to do. If it's animal hunts, it should work. If it's animal hunts in team, it works pretty fine.
I am MSl and MCarb and was using a Beam Rifle for a hunt. I wasn't the biggest damage dealer, but did the job. I also know that with a good pistol i can do some solo hunting, takes a bit longer than with a carbine, but can be done.
If you want to go for PvP, i would assume that things look different, though. Players tend to have higher defence values, so the weapon specific accuracy modifiers can very well be a deciding matter there. Can't tell you from experience, though.

Your DPS may suffer when using a rifle (assuming you have no rifle skills) because modified attack speed is based on general ranged speed + specific weapon speed. With no rifle skills you are relying solely on the general ranged mod.Absolutly it is possible to use a rifle as a master carbineer (i think Adv Laser Rifleis lvl 54w/o any cert requirments), but you really have to compare the two weapons while taking your template into account to decide which is betterfor the situation. This also applies to ranged and melee def because "carbine defense" is added to get the final total.

I haven't tested this at all, but should be at least moderately effective. Even more so with BH, since they're all about General mods. Really curious to know how this plays out in game, come back and let us know how it went if you get around to trying it out.

Im hoping I can log in tonight, although Im tied up with a feckin huge college project at the moment and I took the afternoon off from study to go see Ep3(OMG OMG, go see it NOW, Lucas has surpassed himself), so it may be a while.
I already have a really nice Laser, so Ill check it out based on that. Plus, about the mods, Ill have the following:
General Ranged Speed +70
General Ranged Accuracy +185
Rifle Speed +20
Rifle Accuracy +40
Carbine Speed + 50
Carbine Accuracy +65
Melee Defense +145
Ranged Defense +175
Rifle Defense +20
Carbine Defense +40
So from the numbers it wouldnt appear to be that much worse, especially as a Rifle using Carbine/BH attacks is more powerful to start with than using a Carbine, but not by a massive amount, it would seem that overall Ill probably end up about even on damage depending on the quality of the weapon.
Numbers dont always tell the whole story though, so Ill get back to you when I've had a chance to test it properly.

You are going to have your Marksman Rifle and your BH Rifle trees, so there is some positives. The only other thing to think about is mixing up the Rifle Trees and Carbine Trees. I know for awhile I was only using Carbine x44x and you get all the best Carbine specials. Speed was crap stats wise for Carbs, but if you mix those specials with the speed line in Rifleman you might havea good combo. I don't know anything about rifles so that might not be the working specials though.
The only thing I'm not sure about will be your CL.

I am MBH/MCarb/Pistols 0/40/4
I have tried this. I used a t-21 that had a higher top end damage than any of my carbines and I seem to have done less damage over all (and per hit), not to mention you defenses will drop also.....
Yes you can do it but IMO its not as effective in offense or defense............

*is embarresed*
I actually forgot I posted this, heh.
My final build is Master Bounty Hunter, Master Carbineer, Rifleman 4xx4, Scout 4x11. Im finding it more effective with rifles than my old build of Master Bounty Hunter, Master Rifleman, Master Marksman, Pistoleer xxx3, although I enjoy using my Elite and Czerka Dart carbines as well.
