Thread: which carbine??

Ok guys, i know everyone is down at the moment, since the patch of death for us carbs. This is the first time i have posted on this board, because i have been focusing on combat medic. Now i have mastered that, well a week ago, i obviously need to focus on my other profession, which disasterously seems to be carbineer. Yes i know rifelman are alledgedly better for combat medic, but i like a challenge and it looks like i have one, not to mention i can spray shots at groups best with this.

But the main reason for this post is that i am having troubles deciding on which is the best gun to use. I had a lengthy chat with a fellow carbineer in game and alot of what he said made sense, but i thought i'd put it to the majority.

The thing is i just bought a half decent ee3 and felt a bit stupid, because it's stats are lesser then the elite carbine. However i am guessing it has it's strengths and that is what i am trying to get to the bottom of here. This is the way i see it at the moment about each gun:

Laser carbine: Does the most overall damage, but has a lower min damage then the other main carbs. Can hit medium armour better then the rest. So is it fair to say this is the best carbine to use if your fighting an armoured opponent? Apart from it'susually a little slower, though not really slower then the elite and lower min damages, what are the real downsides to this gun over othe carbs?

Elite Carbine: Has a decent amount of max damage if sliced and has the highest min damage as well. However has only light armour peircing and like laser is energy based which is highly resisted? So it seems to me that this, whilst being more reliable damage wise, will generally do less damage against an armoured opponent then a laser. I would guess form the stats that this is the best carbine for one on one against and unarmoured opponent and maybe some creatures.

ee3: I really wanted this, mainly because stormtroopers use them and it looks dam cool . From what i can see it has no armour peircing and does less max damage then lasers and elites, however has higher minimum damage then a laser. Is better at fighting groups because of the radius element and is faster then elites and lasers, HAMS are lower too. I tested this against a stormtrooper and it sucked, i new this would be the case because it has no armour peircing, but i just wanted to see for myself. So i guess this is the best gun for unarmoured mobs, because it is the quickest, itsprays on aradius and has lighter ham costs. It also uses heat attacks, whatever that means?

dh17: does anyone really use these once they have the other gun certifications or is it just a noob carbine? Yes it;s fast and has less HAM costs but it's damage is generally poor.

DX: ok i know very little about these, never used one, please enlighten me. I know they ise acid and their damage is not disimilar to a e33 in general, but what is the bonus of acid splash???

Ok master carbineers or otherwise, please help me with my fumblings around this profession. All i did here is look at the stats and the results i had gotten in combat and made my assumptions, they are probably innaccurate, i'm ready to be educated on this one lol.

I switch between the DXR6, EE3, and Laser alot. Flurry hasn't spawned any good material for the Elites yet

Laser.. Always on the look out for the Highest Max Damage one with 3.5 speed. Sliced for 30% damage Use this weapon for /actionshot2, /crippleshot,/burstshot2, and /Fullautosingle1. Bleed is still a life saver. Still get a boner when the player/mob comes to DB me and they die due to bleed.

DXR6.. Mostly use this weapon against Mobs that are weak vs Acid (Acid spray would be nice, good Idea) and/or ones that are pointblank.. has the best Neg vs pointblank. But the speed is still to slow.

EE3.. Use against weak vs Heat, Players without armor, and when I"m having to spam /warningshot due to its speed. Have a couple 2.5spd sliced for 101-193 35/38/14 (I think the mind is right.. teenish anyway) My only grip about the EE3 is.. the radius effect doesn't work and the Ideal range Mod is to low. Would like to see +15ish seeing its 27m

Like the above poster said you're best off getting a few different carbs and switch between them depending on situation. Here's my 2 creds on uses:

DH17: Some people make a alot of this gun because of its low HAM costs adn genreally good speed. But its an AR0 weapon which makes it VERY poor on anything armored. I suppose you could use it in PvP as many players don't wear armor, but as a carbineer I find myself usualy doing crowd control with AOE shots and with the varity of armors on pets\players the DH17 just isn't a good option.

EE3: I will rarely use this weapon, mostly on creatures with heat vuneralbilities. Its saving grace is speed, EE3s can be a good high speed option for a novice carbineer, but as you progress your own speed mods really kick in making slower high damage carbs the better option. Also like the DH17 its AR0 and thus not recomendable on higher level creatures or armored players.

DXR6: This is my standard creature hunting gun. Good damage and a reasonable tight damage range, it tends to be a little on the slower side, but at my level of skill it doesn't really matter. This gun's main attraction is that it does acid damage, most creatures (even high level ones) tend not to have acid resistances or have acid vunerability making this one a good choice for hunting. Beware though when a creature does resist acid, it tends to do so in big way, so take a back-up gun. In PvP its damage range makes it decent against most opnents.

Laser: This is my genral purpose carbine that I use 75% of the time. Has the highest damage of the carbs, but the damage range is wide, the end effect is that with crippling shot I can do 150 damage or3000+ damage, it's a deadly lottery sometimes but it can pay off in big way. Also tends to be slow copared to the others, but again at higher levels that gets negated. The primary reason to us this gun however is that it is an AR2, this makes it the best choice for PvP as no armors go beyond medium and you get bonus against most armors or unarmored. Also this a choice weapon for hard target hunts, like krayt draggons, which have medium to heavy armor.

Elite: Sadly due to the generally poor quality of polonium iron we just aren't seeing exactly what the elite is capable of. Its stats make it slighty better than an E11, but only slightly. Also its only AR1 which I think should be changed, but thats another story. The elite just isn't a good option right now as high or even medium quality version of this gun cannot be crafted.

The E11is areasonable choice for working up the marksman class, but once you get to marksman carbine 4it becomes obsolete IMO. The CDEF, well sme people say its worth using for low HAM costs, but with the changes to knockdown and posture change its worthless to anyone past novice.

near complete /agree to daggon.

i just like my 2.7 speed dxr6 better than my 3.5 speed laser, so i use the dxr6 75% of the time, laser 24% of the time, and ee3...about a half percent. all the others combined make up the other half remaining.

So is it fair to suggest that if and when a resource of good polonium iron is found the elite's will live up to their name? I have been using an elite stats

damage:113-195

speed: 3.5

ham: 28/40/20 ish...

It's ok, especially the high min damage, but it could be better i know it can.
