Thread: What is the best for PvP?

Hi All,

I have just reached Novice Pikeman... I feel this is a waste of time and do not want to continue this line... I am already a Master Droid Engineer and do not want to have 2 worthless profession

I can only afford to train 1 master ranged profession so which is best and why? I am interested in PvP and want to have a good weapon. With pikeman I am just chaseing people around hoping to catch them and maybe hit them

PS I am going to ask this question on Pistol/Rifle/ and Carbine Forums to get a good mix of good and bad.

I think a better question you could ask is "Which ranged weapon class is least broken?" ..And the only honest answer anyone from this class can give you is not this one..Carbine users are a very broken class right now..with many of our specials either next to useless or just plain ole too "ham intensive" to be of any regular use. If i were you i would mosey on over to the pistol forum for some "yea ! we kick arss!" talk..cause unfortunatly you wont find any here

bounty hunter would be my suggestion, they seem to get fixed v. nerfed at a 1 to 1 ratio. (one thing fixed, one thing nerfed beyond belief). we just get nerfed, and nerfed, and nerfed. same thing with pistoleers, too...they just started out stronger.


pistoleers get almost no ap weapons, but do have access to a wide range/variety of damage types. they're capable of dishing out a lot of damage with specials. they have a point-blank kd (melee defense), but not ranged. primary ham pool targetted is health (health shot and bodyshot target health only.). easily healed


carbineers get several ap1 weapons and one ap2. good for continuing to do good damage even against armoroed targets. we have teh choice of energy/heat/acid for damage (1 carb does heat, 1 does acid, and every other one does energy.) we can dish out a lot of damage with specials at a high cost to ourselves. we have a ranged kd that can only be used while standing at high cost to ourselves. we take (i think) 30% more damage from melee then pistols (i think its 1.2 for pistol, 1.5 for carb, and 2.0 for rifle). we have a lower speed and slower weapons than pistoleers. primary ham pool is random, followed by action (action shot and leg shot target action. however, our high-damaging specials are random. not sure with pistoleers.)


rifleman have ap3 weapon, with massively high speed mods. not sure all the damage types available, but primarily energy with a few others (cold i know, and i thnk kinetic and stun. not sure at all). reportedly misses closer than 50m a massive majority of the time (according to posts i've seen. seemed accurate to me when i was mastering marksman, but i got out of that as quickly as possible). they take massivley more damage melee, fire a lot slower until master rifleman, but also have a larger possible maxe damage. they have headshot, which targets (currently) unhealable mind damage, but takes a large chunk of your own mind to use.


my end analysis? don't be an elite profession if you want to win in PvP often. choose a hybrid like commando or bounty hunter (now that commandos are working, which is great. a rocket launcher at close range pretty much SHOULD kill me in one hit). bh's suffer from the latest patch like carbineers/pistoleers, but they still have a third weapon to choose from. the LLC probably still has bugs and issues being broken with it, not sure. or, go CH, and get an uber pet or 3. or, be imperial and girnd out the faction to get an at-st or 3.
