Okay, I've played Pistoleer up to 2/1/2/1 and have recently started trying the carbine weapons. I'm not "quite" a carbineer novice yet but will be today. Here are some observations so far.

1) I use a snubnose DH17 with 59 - 149 dmg and 2.7 speed. (non-sliced).

2) my Pistol was a scout at 55 - 140 2.0 speed (non- sliced)

My hunting strategy with the pistol was to go prone, use mask scent and launce Healthshot2,healthshot 1 then use bodyshot 2 4 or 5 times....at which point the mob would run at me. I would then stand up and use warning shot followed by suppresion fire 1 and then use bodyshot 2 until the mob dropped.

With this strategy I took on High whites and low yellows without being hit (unless the warning shot did not take which was rare). I NEVER used a normal shot and my ham NEVER dropped more than 5%.

With my Carbine I quickly noticed two things that were diffrent. 1) I was doing almost as much damage with my normal shot as I was with Body shot 2 with the pistol, and 2) HAM usage was ATROCIOUS. I incap myself on the first mob because I spammed legshot 1 (give me a break) and did not pay attention to My ham bar. Like I said, with my pistol it never dropped 5%.

thankfully, as I said in #1, my regular shot was easily hitting for almost the same as bodyshot2 so I just stopped useing specials except when needed.

Then I got legshot2 and the ham usage does not seem to be as bad. I can spam it on a crazed Duni for 5 or 6 shots and my ham health drops about 8%, so not so bad. As I understand it, however, the carbineer specials have issues with HAM cost...that worries me alot.

Another thing I noticed is that everyone seems to think that the shotnose DH17 sucks.....ummm....okay. It does not have ammor piercing but I was use to that anyway. The only Pistoleer weapon with AR was the DX2 and it was only AR1. If I could find an AR Combine with speed at or under 3 then I would jump on it in a minute, but until I start fighting mobs that NEED AR weapons, I'll stick with my DH17 Snubnose.

One last thing, I switched from pistol to Carbine Right at the patch so I don't know if this is normal or not before the patch, but I seem to miss ALOT with the carbine....I hit about 1 in 4 shots.( ideal range) This may be due to the fix they put in for the various defences and I may have the same problem if I went back to pistol. *shrug* I just thought it was odd.

Sorry for the rambling.

always nice to see people just getting their feet wet picking up almost immediately on what some of our major beefs are =)

as for the dh17, it used to suck, REALLY REALLY REALLY badly. we're talking low damage with truly insane ham costs...i found one of the better ones on my server, with a ham of 40/65/40. never truly got over my prejudice.

post-patch, accuracy seems like we're aiming for the mobs left pinky toe instead of anywhere on him at all. how hard is it to shoot a giant elephant?? i'm not that great with a gun, and i bet (know even!) that i could hit a target that large at 50m, with a pistol, rifle, or m16. (well, depending on the pistol..a desert eagle might be a bit much, but not a 9mm, and some rifles might be a bit much, but not a .22)

as i understand it, now the dh17 has the lowest ham usage of any carb except the cdef, so when you pick up a carb that's worth its damage, your ham costs'll double. the way of the world, young padawan =/

i would suggest picking up a laser carbine when you can. you'll notice (or should!) a rather large difference in teh damage you dish out in comparison to the dh17, but you'll start using specials even more sparingly. if you're still hunting crazed durnis, here's a great tip...with a little bit of terrain negotiation, you run JUST barely faster than them (ok, more like 1-2m per second faster). soooo...just run away and shoot. it'll take longer due to accuracy mods, but it'll also be cost-free (or nearly)
