Thread: Thought on speed...interesting
Most of you remember that I posted earlier that carbine speed should be higher than that of a pistol.
I was " shot down" by an individual who at the time seemed to have sound logic, as he was counting the time it takes to shoulder a carbine and aim, as opposed to a pistol.
I just realized that is incorrect.
Ok, follow me here:
*You see something you want to kill
* You hit tab (or whatever) and target it
*No matter if you are running, turned around, wherever...
*You will IMMEDIATELY attack with whatever you are using as soon as you command it to.
*If the "Shoulder and aim" logic was sound, then every weapon would have to wait its delay before the first attack
Now, this is obviously not the case. The weapon is shouldered and aimed when we target something. So, someone explain, now:
Why can we not fire faster than pistols? As a carbine, we should be firing rapidly, and that is not even counting full auto. Aiming and shouldering is obviously not the issue.
Although I would hope by now that it is reasonable to assume that some/most of you can see my point, I would like to propose a question.
Is this a problem with the whole COMBAT SYSTEM, or PROFESSION BALENCE? By "Balence", I mean that they comapre properly.
Opinions?
Well, if you think about it, the carbine is like an assault rifle which is supposed to be much faster and more powerful. However, what they could do is raise the speed and lower the accuracy rate on all of the carbines.
Plus they still need to make it so the elite carbine is an elite pile of **edit**
my bad... they need to make it so the elite isnt a pile of **edit**, cause they have already done that.
sure in RL a asualt rifle is faster more powerfull and more accurat than a pistol but how is that going to work in SWG? That sora negates the need for any other ranged class.
Glad you asked. It doesn't, of course, negate rifles. And melee in general (minus pikeman) is devastating in close. The major issue is Carbine/Pistol. I guess you are right, though. Personally, I think it is a problem with the combat system.
But here isa suggestion I would like everyone to consider:
Why not switch Carbine/Pistol WEAPON speeds, and give Carbineers a slightly higher speed mod. That way both proffessions should be able to reach the speed cap, AND it sounds reasonable all-around. IE: A pistol itself would be slower, but the Pistoleer would be faster. The Carbine would be faster, but the carbineer a bit slower. It would all be basically the same, cater to my disgruntled sense of logic, and would give us that speed boost we need.
The e-11 has ap and a well made one can actually nudge the 2.0 attack speed. That is pretty close to a pistol. My e-11 speed slice w/powerup shoots at about 1.8. My dh-17 snub with speed slice and powerup shoots at 1.6. Both of them Pistol speeds. And you better believe I get pistol damage out of them too.
Its a trade off. The higher the damage of the weapon the slower the speed. The only exception is the CDEF. A laser rifle hits for 400-500 nominal but has a nominal attack speed of around 5-6 . The carbine hits for 250-350 nominal but has a nominal attack speed of 3-4 . The republic blaster has a nominal of 180-210 and a nominal attack speed of 1.8-2.5.
See where that is going. If we give up damage for speed then we will just be pistoleers with longer barrels.
Seems obvious to me that if pistols and rifles hit speed cap the carbine should too.
