Thread: A word about combining doctor...

Yeah, it's great and all. Only using like 16-19 or so mind and nothing else at all even when using your most powerful moves (i.e cripple shot). But when you think about it, lots of people say that doctor is really good with Carbine. It's true, it'sfact. I won't deny that. But really, if you combine doctor with practily ANY marksman proff you'll be pretty fooking uber. Although rifleman is an exception, since they use mind and mind cant be buffed be docs. But gunfighters...boy....I saw one using a Republic Blaster (probably a krayyted one ursomethin, but still) and I saw in the combat window he was using Stopping Shot. I was like..ok, not bad. When I saw his damage, it was around 900 averaged. He hit often for 1.1k mind you, and lowest he did with it was 700 or so, but still:


Eating 80 action or so - We eat OVER 110 or so, we need to use a laser carbine to do it, and our average ISN'T 900. We can still hit for about 500. Hell, even 400!!


Really survial for us is harsh. Now I only have 0300 of carbine (I do qualify for 0311, but I'm not quite gonna get it just yet) but that doesn't effect the damage I do with cripple shot or with whatever degree I have in Carbineer.


Anyone else have this problem and a solution to it? (Obiously something ELSE than just do doctor/eat BoH and Ryk cake)

Stopping shot is pretty powerful, but in theory the damage from, say, a Krayt'd Laser Carb with damage slice and powerup should be higher, yes?

no.... damage spread is WAY to large. average from crippling for me is 2k, and thats about 1 per 4 stoppingshots from a master gunfighter. average for burstshot on the otherhand, is a much higher average than for crippling, so slightly higher than the MPs average at around 1.2-2k for me, and since i can almost fire it at the cap, ( about 1 1/2 stoppingshots for 1 burst, going in intervals of 1 to 1 then1 to 2, so 2 per his 3) i can do ALMOST as much damage as a MP, because while my average is 1.2-2k i still get those annoying 200-400 damage shots.


i almost never hit in between 500-1k, so i'm either real high or real low with burst, which is opposite crippling, which is right in the middle of its damage (min 250 max 4k) and crippling is a lot slower.


a master gunfighter also uses less HAM (altho not a problem for a doc). BUT they don't get a spammable KD. now once you guys master, go out and spam KD starting at 35m with a master gunfighter and see who wins. its almost always the carbineer. so in PvP, i can easily kill a master gunfighter/master doc (if i'm buffed as well). in PvE, i have a snowballs chance in hell of outdamaging them.

you also need to take into account that when people talk about the carbineer/doc combo, they are talking about ideally being a master carbineer/doc. carbineer is not a 'dabbler' friendly class like pistoleer is no matter what anyone says. quite frankly, until one gets to master or close to it, they will suck.


you are 0-3-0-0 carbine? you may as well be a novice with that specalmost.alot of good it does to have cripple shot when you shoot once per hour. youll die of old age before you die of ham loss. another prob is that you are using a laser carb. i dont care how much its max damage is, while the laser carb is a good gun, its big flaw is its damage spread. people think elites suck but a well made elite can and will outdamage a laser carb unless the laser carb is 'lucky' by getting a higher than average high-end damage rate. personally i prefer not to gamble during combat.


also, yes pistoleer (or any combat class) will also benefit from taking doctor skills but no other profession ismore crippled by their ham costs than the carbineer, thus carbineers stand to benefit the most from these skills. if you were 4-0-0-0 or master with +50 or +60 speed mod you would be shooting specials (and thus burning ham) much faster than you are now and it would be much more obvious how much being able to self buff would benefit you. being able to spam carbine specials like burstshot, fasII, cripple and especially chargedshot are a great advantage.


finally, a carbineer/doc can weararmor like the other ranged classes whereas without doc buffs armor is a death sentence for a carbineer.


im not saying carbineer/doc is perfect or the best (carbineer/CH is a great combo that i used for a long time and i hear carbineer/CM isnt bad either) as individual play style needs to be taken into account.its not about what the uberest combo is, its what themost enjoyable combo is for you. if youare unhappy with yourdamage output butdont want to spend more skill pts then surrender carbineer and try pistoleer or surrender the marksman line and skill up in the speed line. if you want knockdowns, consider dropping some skill pts in the 4th line.
