Thread: Best Carbineer advice at a Tusken Fort?
Hey guys, I was at the Tusken Fort all last night. I was watching alot of people solo-ing these things. Now I'm only a 2-3-2-2 Carbineer. But what I'd like to know is, what can I do to solo one of these guys. I was so amazed at what others were doing that my mouth dropped. I just need to know since you mostly fight real close up, what would you do? I'm not the smartest SWG player here. When it comes to help, I beg for it. So please help a man in need.
Thank you
Keifoon
BTW. I bought this game to get closer to my Brother-In-Law. I'm not that good at these games, but I'm really getting the hang of it. So I hope you don't mind my questions from time to time.
If hes talking about Fort Tusken, the POI, I went in with doctor buffs and my 73% ubese. The were all using Tusken rifles(last time i used them did kinetic damage) which do energy. I promptly got nailed in the head by a strafing shot and the armor protected me for 15% energy resistand I died.
If theres another Tusken Fort that they only use melee, please post the wp
.
As a carbinier, you need distance. I came to carbines from pistoleer, where I was used to closing the distance and fighting in basically melee range or a bit outside (with kiting etc)..
If you always think of the battle as "keep em away from me", you're half way there.
Carbines give you some handy specials for accomplishing this, namely posture down and knockdown attacks, which are great opening attacks IMHO since it keeps the mob at bay and lets you hit it a few times before you have to deal with it at melee range.
I use action shot 1 (or 2 if there's a group, since it's an area of effect cone), which applies an action pool bleed, AND attempt to posture down the opponent. Now there's a timer on these attacks, but as far as I can tell, it's only when it actually succeeds. So I keep hitting my action shot key until I see (in the little status icon of my target) that the mob has kneeled. I usually save charge shot (the knockdown) for later, in case I'm running from the mob and I need a breather to heal or make some distance.
Then I start hitting it with full auto single 2 to hopefully add a state or two (and do some good damage at the same time). If I notice that the action bar is actually down past 50%, I switch to a consistent spam of legshot2 (or 3 if you have it).
If you can, try to keep track of when you got the posture down (look at the timestamp next to the combat spam), so you know roughly when 30 seconds have gone by and you're able to do it again.
I've also found that as a novice carbinier, trying to stick to ideal range as much as possible is a huge benefit. When I'm in melee range (I am 2/2/0/3 at the moment), I miss nearly half my shots. When I'm closer to ideal range, it's more like 1 in 4 that misses.
If you can, pick up a pet or a probe droid to use as a tank also. That can help immobilize a mob for a while at least, and let you pick your combat ranges a bit better.
Oh yeah, and lastly, get buffed. I never do any serious fighting without buffs as a carbinier. It's just not worth it.
Mind buffs are cool if you can get them too, but not necessary. And if you don't like the unexpected downer of Muon Gold, try some fishak (drink) and ormacheck (food - bad spelling, I forget the exact name). The drink gives you +500 to mind for 10 minutes and the food gives you roughly +120 to all 3 mind stats (and you can eat 2 before you're full) for about 4 minutes.
So there you go. I guess it's not specific to fort tusken, but that's my two credits on some basic carbinier strategies in the field.
Need I say more.

Doctors/Entertainers buffs(or muon if you cant find dancers/musicans). Get a good set of composite armor with a high energy resist. Should make you almost indestructable, except against the force wielders.
Hes talking about the Tusken Fort, so Ubese with 70% Kinetic Resists will work better.
ryshcate/fishak is the combo imo...muon is for extreme emergencies =)
get fully buffed from a doctor and keep some agerian fishnak suprise and/or muon gold to keep your mind bar up.
get some composite armor to put on after you get buffed. ubese will work if youre on a budget but in the fort you are just are more likely to get shot to death as a carbineer than melee'd to death for the simple reason that you have chargeshot and will be able to keep most tuskens that get close off of you. when i get incapped in ft tusken it is always from being shot at range and taking mind wounds, never melee.
get a very fast carbine and have it sliced for speed and use it for ft tusken. i highly recommend you find a master weaponsmith and ask him to make you a DH17 snubnose or 2 or even 3 (these are the most inexpensive carbines to make so dont worry too much about cost). get them all sliced and hope for a speed slice. take the fastest one and youre ready to go.
with buffs and composite armor ( i would recommend not wearing a comp helmet or you will regenerate your mind bar so slow that you wont be able to survive without regular rest periods and ft tusken often makes that difficult) and very speedy, low ham carbine you will own in ft tusken. bear in mind your shots wont hit as hard because the DH17 snubnose doesnt have armor peircing but you will be able to spam bleeds and chargeshot constantly. you will also be able to take on multiple tuskensbecause you can switch targets fast.
finally, start out slow once you arebuffed, armed and armored. it takes practice multi-targetting and spamming specials with speed in mind over power and using a ranged weapon atpoint blank melee range rather than the long range you are used to.
good luck
I used a damage sliced laser carbine, some 69% / 79% kenetic/ 80% energy composite, and Stim C's as an almost master medic at the time. I was1/3/1/2 Carb, and I can solo just everything in Tusken Fort (one at a time only). I use a Legshot 3 / Chargeshot 1/ Burstshot 1 Combo and they drop within either 3 or 6 shots, except for the Warlords. Warlords take a bleed or two and a little kiting, but I can do the whole fort that way until they start respawning. It sucks when ya get trapped in there though, practice pulling one mob out of a group of Tuskens for a while before ya go deep the caves. I usually get incapped at a minimum if I get more than one at a time. (they won't deathblow if they are bleeding or have another state effect)
Now I'm at 2/3/1/2 Carb and Novice Doc, and it should be a touch easier in there for me solo, but groups give TONS more xp IMO. I see no reason to solo the fort unless you just can't find a group there.
When I had my bh line and carbineer combo, I'd do a chargeshot then spam crippling, and with my 2.4 dh17 subnose like said before, its ownage, 2k damage and up like every second, if they get up befor eyou kill em, hit em with another chargeshot, it owns.
