Thread: What do you think of this template?
hello,
i wanted to try a new char on the server cause im getting bored with my profession to the point that i dropped the bh line and just are a master pistoleer with some medic skills and soon to be df skills of smuggler.
my thought was to build a "pure" melee char with extraordinary defenses to help me in close fights (if defenses ever get fixed that is). the setup would look like this:
master brawler
master fencer
novice pikeman + master polearm defensive techniques
novice swordsman + master sword defense
novice tka + master balance conditiong + master precision striking
novice medic + fa2 + pharmalogy 4 + diagnostics 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
defensive bonuses would be the following:
melee defense: 91
ranged defense: 68
dodge: 25
block: 10
def. vs. posture change: 100
def. vs. knockdown: 95
def. vs. blind: 50
def. vs. intimidate: 20
def. vs. dizzy: 45
def. vs. stun: 35
counterattack: 15
another question i have is if the toughness skills of each weapon line stack when wielding any close combat weapon which i highly doubt but i just want to be sure cause this will be my 1st melee char in swg.
thx for any comments in advance
Nice plan! I'd do something like that too, I'm just not brave enough to head into the field with no ranged abilities ![]()
To answer your question: Toughness is specific to your individual weapon- they dont stack.

agreed 100%
I bet the polearm AE knockdown with the fencer AE dizzy will be fun.

Right now I'm master Combat Medic, but I want to start getting more combat-involved. Since I'm usually the designated healer, I still want to keep enough CM to be effective. CM isn't usually a dabbler-friendly class, but I came up with something I thought might work. What do you think?
Marksman 0/4/0/4
Master Medic
Doctor 0/4/3/0
CM 4/0/0/4
Master Pistoleer

You really don't need to be a Master Pistoleer to be effective in combat, all you need is one tree to get the best 'bang for the buck'. Obviously, you know which tree I'm talking about so I'm not going to go in to details. I would recommend master Doctor for cures and full buffing capabilities. You can be very effective without being a master pistoleer.

Thanks for the help
.
I decided to master pistoleer and doctor (seperately) since I already have about half of each. If I ever get a holocron, I don't want to end up needing to master a profession I'm already close to, they're too rare.
As for the tree in pistoleer, it depends what you're looking for. I'm mastering the one with all the specials first (up to fan shot - can't rmeember the name). This seems to be the best if you're dabbling, the tradeoff is that you only have marksman accuracy with those moves. I hear that point blank area 2 is good for getting xp though, so I may get that tree next...
Master TKA
Medic 0/0/4/4
Smuggler 0/0/4/0
Brawler 4/0/0/0
Marksman 0/4/0/1
This way I would have Pistoleer / Smuggler Combo and TKA for melee. And just enough medic (Stim C's + Healing B's) to keep myself patched up?
Would this work for both PvE and PvP?

I'd drop everything but Novice Medic -- just buy well-experimented Stim Bs from a Master Doctor. I'd also consider dropping Marksman 0/0/0/1.
Instead, I'd pick up the Fencer line that gives you great ranged/melee defense.
