Thread: Pistol > Carbine right now
So I have carfully planne dout my character to revolve around the carbine becasue I foolishly thought that it would be the bridge between short and long distance and still have a good rate of fire... boy was I wrong.
Over the last few days in order to get my marksmen tree filled I have been working with a scout pistol and I can honnestly say that next to a carbine I wounder why they are even put in the same skill tree.
Leg shots on my carbine which I thought were grate at the time pail in comarison to a gazillion body shots. With Leg I run down on action super quick but with body shot I regen before the next shot. and as for accuracy I saw no differance between the damage I got with the frequency of shots with the pistol over the number of carbine shots that actually landed.
I feel really stupid right now becasue I took up carbine as my main weapon and invested in carbeiner... someone tell me what is the reason to enjoy carbs still?
Pistol wins in rate of fire, HAM cost, close quarters and long range over time with the basic body shot.
This seems to be a loose/loose situation for carbines. Am I missing something fundemental about carbines that make them remotely competative?
Copied from another post:
In a nutshell, carbines are higher damage (see crippling shot), have higher AP weapons but typically use more HAM than pistol shots.
Pistolhasnostatus attacks (stun/dizzy/blind),no ranged knockdown, and one armorpiercingweapon that you get atNovice Pistoleerthatdoesacid AP1 damage (and it'sbroken, the DX2 issupposed todoarmor piercing, butit's not). I was shocked thatI hadaccesstoanAP2weaponat CarbineIIIunder the Marksman profession. Also, having aselection ofAP weaponswithdifferent damagetypesis great. IfIran intoanarmoredmobwith high acid resists witha DX2, Iwas screwed.
Thanks for that. Gives me faith for pvp but while leveling I feel pistol will be the bread and butter for now.
HAMs really need to come down though and damage type wepons need diversity. Pistols my not have a stun attack but they have a pitol type that does the stundamage outright.
As a current (soon to be former) Pistoleer (0.1.4.2), let me tell you that pistols hit very weakly compared to the other marksman professions. With the whole newly-revamped Trickshot line under my belt for quite some time now, which holds the high damage modifier of the pistoleer professions, I hardly ever hit above 2k. The damage range of Fan Shot seems to be from 700-1300, give or a take a few hundred depending on the gun. Of course, the weaker range of damage is compensated by the awesome speed of most pistols.
The main problem ofcarbines seems to be accuracy, especiallyduring the climb inthe Marksman profession. The damage is very good only if you land them and it's very hard to do so in the early stages ever since the "run-&-gun issue"patch was put in. Pistoleers were and still very much suited to run and gun tactics.
It's a good thing that the accuracy modifiers are in the same line as the heavy damage-modifier abilitiesin carbine because it would just suck if I had to forgo the high damage for accuracy or vice versa. Also, the pistol that does the stun damage does not create the stun effect on the target and it pretty much sucks for damage and speed.
Onething that I think the Devs don't realize yet or just haven't fixed is that pistolsare too effective when it comes to long distances. I mean anytime anything gets remotely too close to me I miss like a mother and I know its the same for the riflemen but pistoleers seem to have no trouble no matter how far the target is.

I dropped pistoleer for carbineer and don't regret it at all.
Carbine > Pistol IMHO
Also, if you miss when stuff is close, try switching to a weapon with a lower point blank penalty.
For what its worth I have 4 carbines hotkeyed and switch very frequently.
Advancing in pistoleeris pretty fast and easy I think (easier than with carbine). YesterdayI bought a realy realy good snubnosed DH17 carbine. This gun rocks!! The speed of 2.4 is a clear winner. The HAM cost were realy low also, I could spam Legshot 2 with my wookie marksman. Sure they eat a lot of HAM, but it wasvery doable. The damage is also sweet.
I think this is the best carbine I've owned so far. The AP of 0 will be a bit of a problem later on when facing tougher mobs. But for now it owns ![]()
