I've heard of people taking this template after CU, but i'm not sure why.
It would have master marksman with it and maybe some of pistol.
It sounds cool (kind of an all-around battlefield assault person), anyone explain?

I also see many people taking Commando/Carbineer but I can't see the benefits.

Rifle gives the range, nifty weapons and high damage (assuming leg hit is moderated). Carbineer gives the state effects (crowd control) like root, knockdown, etc., as well as giving you Battle Armour certification (balanced between energy and kinetic resistance) as opposed to rifle's Recon armour (higher energy, lower kinetic resistance). Combining the two makes you a very effective general combatant. Throw in a couple of trees of pistol (x-x-3-4 has bene recommended) and you've got great versatility in your ranged attacks.
I haven't explored commando enough to know, but I suspect the draw there is being able to use Carbnies' crowd control attacks (including aoe and state-inducing attacks) with the Commando's high-damage, DOT-dealing weapons.

Carbineer/Commando seems a little redundant. They both have area attacks and carbineer only has slightly more state attacks. The big difference I see is DOT, but then again the flamethrowers are Cone attack anyway.
If Rifleman/Carbineer is a more viable template than Commando/Rifleman i'll take it. Both sound good, Rifle/Carbine sounds a bit more versatile and specialized for forward and all-purpose combat.

good speed, good accuracy, the ability to shoot farther then anyone else in the game, stronger weapons then anyone else in the game but you can use all their specials. yep those are a few good reasons

I also tried MRifleman, MCommando, MMarksman, 0300 Carbineer.
Slightly more accuracy than with the other template with crippling shot.

Fortunately, you'll have plenty of opportunity to test whatever combinations you wish for the first two weeks. Ackehece seemed to indicate on one post that we'd be eligible for a respec every 12 hours (is that right, Acke?),which gives you time to test many different combinations. Myself, I'm having a tough time choosing between a hard-core all-ranged template such as I described, or whether to go Rifle/Ranger, and just hope for a good Ranger revamp later in the year.

actually... commando has no specials, their weapons are their specials. their weapons turn any special into an AOE DOT attack.

Took up carbineer just so I can use my ST armor.. err.. Imperial Battle Armor after the revamp. Once Carbineer specials are fixed (currently most are busted) it will be a nice addition to the rifleman. Heavy offense (or so they claim for rifleman) along with high crowd control from carbineer will make for a nice mix of play styles. Not too sure whether or not I'll toss on some Pistoleer for Intimidate (x-x-3-x) and Stopping Shot (x-x-x-1) or just pickup a few lines of BH since I already have Explore 4 in my template.
