Thread: Rifleman or Carbineer
Getting to master rifleman is a LONG slow slog - and worse if you're on a server with no T21's. Once you get to master, as it currently stands it's an excellent class. I've got a rifleman (1/1/3/2) on Lowca, and a Carbineer (sic) 0/0/0/0 on Sunrunner
Carbines are great in a group engagement. You should hit the speed cap sooner in the tree since the weapons are faster than the rifles.
Rifleman
PROS
Current Elite weapon is deadly, in the hands of a master as the speed doesn't really matter.
T21 has AP3
Counter-Sniping line has excellent specials that deal lots of damage. Concealshot is not fixed.
You can solo pretty much anything in the game with a lot of patience.
CONS
Novice riflemen are sitting ducks in most engagements
2.5 Melee Damage
Spraysticks are borked
Support class? in groups
Mind drain - not as bad as the multiple ham hits of the carbine, but you don't get a stim to heal you.
Carbines
The Elite carbine stinks. It's broke and useless. Sorry - as a master weaponsmith i only custom make these as i know the issues.
The EE3 has potential, but it's currently gimped as the 'shotgun' effect doesn't seem to work.
PROS
Laser Carbine is a good weapon, easily available on all servers.
Speed caps are reached more quickly (can't confirm, but they should be)
HAM drains can be healed by medics / stims
CONS
HAM costs are too high
Elite weapon broken
I like both classes. I think the carbineer needs some loving to fix some of the broken specials, and the gimped Elite (snort), but it's a faster paced class than the rifleman.

Master carbineer is defiently pretty powerful, especially so if you get first strike advantage. Rifleman has some of the same issues, ham costs being outrageous, but if you balance rifleman with doctor, up all your mind stats to the max and use buffs to compensate for low health/action then you become quite the uberman.
Almost the same thing can be said about the carbnineer/doctor combo, however the riflemans ablity to target the mind pool, give its the edge there.
Balancing with TKA I'd say carbineer is the better choice, your knockdown/supression ablities will be very useful against kiters and carbineers although we sorta suck in closer corner combat, we are a hell of alot better than rifleman, and we do have decent ranged attacks.
Rifleman have so-so special, nothing really shines,
carbineer is very bad at beginning, but since a carbineer can access Bh's carbine line and get the special and mod, it's able to inflict much more damage, and much more deadly in pvp than rifleman.
if you master carbineer and Bh carbine 4, you have +190 carbine accuracy, and +115 carbine speed, with confusion shoot and charge shot, it's very easy to dizzy someone and keep them down in pvp while crippling them in 1 shot.

Mind is still a determining factor in PvP. With buffs, food, and so on, its not all that bad, but still a lovely pool to target. Mind bleed from rifleman and close in with TKA? That would be fun. Plus a ranged DB would be nice too.
I think carbineer would be better. The posture changes / KD will help you close distances. Plus, we get bonuses to hit while moving. I seem to do fairly good at running and gunning these days, again, that will help with closing the distance. And if you are going to master carbineer, our counterattack will help negate damage anyone attempting to kite you would do.
actually a master rifleman can 1 hit most targets - a strafeshot 2 hits for close to 4k usually and with the AP3 T-21 rifle that's almost doubled if you don't have armor on... actually it's still good damage even with armor on . Rifleman does have mind shots and ion jawa rifles that go right through the composite armor(unless you can make composite with stun layer?)
And whoever said carabineer caps the speed early on??? So wrong - master carbineer speed is 60 so you can never cap the speed only with master carabineer skillsfor some of the better shots - like crippliing shot - without powerups on a damage sliced carabine you'll be doing uhmm 1 shot every 4 seconds at master level VS the strafe 2 shot of a rifleman that would do more damage and will be fired ever 1.5 second...
