Is it currently known what order calculations for combat are done?
The order that currently seems to make the most sense, and the one that I have been using, is the following:
Special Modifier
Ranged Damage Mitigation
Armor Piercing/Protection
Armor % Effectiveness
Meaning you first take damage that it says right on your weapon, multiply it by the special modifier, and then do the RDM calculation. Following, you take into effect the AP differences, and after that the armors actual effectivness.
Example: Laser carb, calculate for 7.5x cripple shot, do damage calculations, add % for extra AP, subtract % from effectivness.
Have the devs said anything about this? Has anyone ran tests on it?

It would also help to know exactly how the AP system works... I have been told many things.
Some have said that if the weapon is an AP level below the armor, there is a 50% reduction, and if the weapons AP is one above the armor, there is a 25% addition. If the AP level is the same, there is no calculation. I don't know what of that is true and what isn't... it has also been said to me that if AP is the same, there is no AP calculation, but there is reduction from the actual effectiveness. However if the AP is a level above the armor, then there is a 25% addition and the effectivness is ignored. Again, I don't know what is fact and what isn't, but I would really like to know preciesly how this works.
Thanks all

you've got the order right, but the armor calculations get a little quirky. Here's the test results -
