Thread: Thinking Carbineer/Pikeman... Any Takers? :)

I had Pikeman for a holo and now Carbineer for a holo. Pikeman blows! You would be much better off if you look the other way and run. The damage is low, the defenses suck, and you will miss 80% of the time...... against knocked down targets. For now, look at Swordsman, Fencer, or TKA for a melee combat class. I hope the combat pass fixes them. I would bet money that a Marksman with Rifles 4 will beat a Master Pikeman in a duel at 20 m.

I'm also thinking of going Pikeman. Already Master Carbineer, and Armorsmith isn't so hot anymore for me. Don't have time/funds to keep up with the rest of the 3- account, 100 cpu for hide Armorsmiths.

Melee mitigation will be nice, being able to focus on action at range and melee will also be nice (can stack two bleeds again, I hope). All the areas will be nice, and I'll also be able to be a true tankwith my 80% composite pieces.

Wow whoever said that a Master Pikeman beat a Master TKA.. Well that Master Tka must have reallly sucked, pikeman is too borked, take up somethin else with carbineer maybe Doc for self buffs. Doc/rifle or Doc/Tka is good now and Carbineer is the next flavor of the month. If you are that type of player get ahead and do it.

I'm thinking of doing carbineer/pikeman myself just because I really want to be a pikeman and carbineer seems to match well with it.

I'm heading for Master Pike already (sucker for an uphill battle), and my holo told me go Carbineer - which I'd been thinking of doing anyway, since I think Carbineer is the equivalent to Pikemen of the ranged professions... Thought about the two and how they would complement one another. Although my understanding is that bleeds have been nerfed into oblivion (possibly excepting the god Fire bleeds), both offer action targeted strikes as well as good area attacks ... which might be good for a soloer, or very small groups, to do as much damage to an area as quickly as possible.

Thanks for any advice.

A pikeman won a PvP contest on Wanderhome, and trust me, not because any other pvp-er on Wanderhome is an idiot. It's really how you play it... some people may be shocked to find out that youcan actually win some fights if you use your brain.

as a pikeman, I always know that I have a decent shot at beating ANY melee prof. I've had folks on the groud with a quick sweep and killed them in one hit several times. I am getting used to master carbine, tried it out in PvP earlier....got dominated haha...oh well, I still like it anyway. I have to warn yu though, with this combination, defenses are sevearly lacking. I am surrendering nearly all of my medic and picking up tk defenses and meditate (4/0/0/4) to suppliment my carbine and pike. TK combat aquity (spelling?) doesn't hurt either.

Well, the stacking is going bye bye, anyway, so I'll probably just end up getting attachments.

As for Pike not beating a TK: Pikeman can get those legendary Nightsister Vibroaxes with AR2 Kinetic damage. It's not hard to see that when they actually land a hit (accuracy is bad on most of their weapons), their target's going down.

I replied to this in the pike forum, and I'll drop a lil more in here.

If we have a legendary axe, /drool, and you get silly and hit the ground, you will be hurt. All there is too it. The other aspect is the lootable disease lances which keep on giving. Problem is that is our best asset and these are not hotcakes, for every one Pikeman with an impressive arsenal there are 4 (if there are that many on your given server ) who are seeing mitigation destroy the DPS on their player crafted axes. Much in the manner the Laser carb is cut up with mitigation.

Bonus, ranged and meele mitigation. With the patch you will have several knockdowns. Defense will be a problem, personally I'm figuring out how to complement meele over ranged defenses. With both professions you will have a tough time hitting stackers or dodge enhanced PvPers. See what the patch brings with that.

Before our orginazation was dissolved in a raid last night, after which we promply got stomped, I was doing quite well bouncing between the two proffessions. However you are notgoing to be a stand alone army, unless you use impressive tactics. PvE is great though, you can go into a room chock full of NPC's and put half of em on their backs within the first few moves. Pulling out the carb occasionally to knock back down any riflemen that might be giving you trouble at the far ends of the room.

I veiw the combination as pure support. The only time you really shine is by making it easier for your teammates to do their thing. I have noticed close combat with the occasional FAS will garner alot off meele attention so imo you will need to reinforce your meele defenses, but it is reliant on your play style.

Yeah, I think if you wanted to be a soloist, you'd go Heavy Sword/Rifle or Pistol. I really like the support role, and the CoB idea sounds cool. I've never seen it in use before, though.

I'm thinking pikeman can be good too... I'm starting to see that the professions that seem poor at a glance can be played well and pawn a lot of riflemen / TK's out there, and even if they cant TBH after rifles carbines is so much more fun having more than one special to fire - who cares if I'm not that good in PvP if its more enjoyable

I DO hope carbineer does turn out to be ones of those professions that is easily played badly... but can be deadly played well. If any such professions exist in this game those will be much better choices than all these PvP combo's im seeing atm (being able to dizzy / KD / suppression fire may even give you a chance in hell against combat medics).

I've heard (and seen to a certain extent) that carbines do little damage, so my plan is to use carbines not as the damager but as the useful profession - CM + Carbines could work well - keep 'em stunned or KD'd while you let the poisins do the damage a carbine isnt supposed to be able to do. The disadvanatge is low defence of course.

By other option (which I want to try out but I'm afraid to with combat medics about (and I want to get good with cm before the nerf ) is carbineer + fencer (and possibly bralwer, but I may take TKA meditation instead for those poisins...) The fencer is the profession that owns... but the carbineer takes up in the fencer's weakspot - riflemen running away. KD + suppression fire quickly puts an end to that.

TBH I havnt looked into pikeman much... The advanatage of fencer is it compliments the carbineers defences nicely, I might need to check the pikeman forums

Depends on who your fighting, most masters will have no problem cutting through a pikemans CoB, I'm top teir in defence currently and while my CoB can prove to be a hassle to novices a master will still manage to get the importaint shots in. One thing I'm not sure has been looked into is CoB with the new caps. Personally I plan on capping counterattack bacause a pikeman's block is useless, you still take a good deal of damage, and I dunno if the values that CoB effects in the combat rolls are effected by the cap also. So again, suppliment your defense what ever you do.
