Hey all,

I won't bore you with details, but suffice to say i've been a carbineer since last year, and like many of you, I find it a fun, and challenging combat class.

This post is really because of a comment someone made casually, and it got me thinking.. one of a carbineers greatest strengths is the ability to inflict states and knockdown, both singly and mobs, but we do reach a point in the game where higher level mods just seem to immune to what 'defines' us. Eventually it boils down to raw damage and armour piercing, and while we have that to a degree, it isn't comparable to riflemen, or commandos (nor should it be).

Simply put, perhaps an issue we should place more importance in, is having our state attacks and KD/posture downs work more effectively on higher level mobs? Right now it seems to be a case of extremes, they either work great on lower level mobs, or not at all on higher level mobs. There needs to be some balance, and yes, a higher level mob should be harder to kill, but our greatest strength should not be totally diminished. As an aside, and I have never found out why, but why does dizzy have no effect on creatures? Again, this just seems toremove some of the tactics from our profession (though this is a general issue).

Importantly, we should not suddenly be able to KD/Dizzy/blind/stun everything that moves 'really' easily, but we should, at master, have some chance of inflicting these states on the top level mobs, and have them be somewhat effective,to strenghten our profession (especially in groups).

sucinctly said and a reasonable request. I just made master carbineer and was expecting my knockdown to be much more effective and was sorely disappointed.

While that is how it currently is, I don't see the need to change Carbineer much, but some of course. The real changes need to be done about all the other profs solo'ing and camping.....that is the real problem.

Carbineer is the most "complete" and "balanced" profession in the Devs eyes. We just have to wait until the others get "balanced"

I love carbines and i'm happy with carbines

Whatever people say, carbine is a great weapon and a very dangerous one.

Rifleman/CM vs me (doc/carbineer)

I owned him in a hardcore way...

I've been thinking the same thing. I hope this gets more discussion and attention.

If i apply a dizzy on a creature, I can't use posture down attacks to KD them even if I dont get the 'failed to change posture' message. Is this right?

Unfortunately it is programmed that no "creature" can do the fish flop only NPC and PC....

I would have thought this would have been a bigger issue for carbineers, unless people 'just'want more damage and AP? I've read the polls for what players wish the carbineer to be, and crowd control always seems to come out on top, but because we really struggle to KD/debuff high level mobs, we can't crowd control past a certain level. Its certainly how I see us being more effective and making us 'different' from other professions.

Oh, and perhaps carbineers could do with an AoE warningshot to give us something different on creature hunts, as we can't dizzy/KD critters like we can NPCs. Possibly replace suppression fire 2 with this move.

Anyway, i'm hoping novamarine will stop by and comment.

One of the major issues that needs attention is status effects, but not in that sense. Carbineers need a reliable status effects shot. FullAuto2 does inflict stun/dizzy/blind, but it's at a chance, where as MBH Spray shot will inflict all those status effects at first connecting shotif the person/MoB has no defense to those effects. Carbineer loses it's importance as a stutus inflicting profession because it's state shot only has a 40% chance do inlict the state, plus the def of the target
