Thread: Can anyone help a returning Carbineer out?

Hey, everyone!

I've recently returned from a fairly extended hiatus (was forced to leave a month or so before vehicles came in) to find the combat and the Carbineer profession in general to be very little like I remember them being. I've also forgotten quite a bit. I read the FAQ up at the top of the page and it answered a lot of my questions, but I've got some others and I'd be eternally grateful if someone could help me out. Mostly I'm wondering about defense.

Armor: My armor is all super old, most of it is damaged, and it's basically a collection of stuff I picked up on quests or from crafters during the first month of the game. Has armor crafting changed any, and would it be worth my while to buy an updated set? Also, is Composite the best choice, or should I consider some other type?

Food: What food types should I keep on hand? I seem to have eaten all my melons and I'm pretty sure melons sucked anyhow.

Hunting: If anyone has any recommendations for critters that make for good experience, I'd appreciate the pointers.

Thanks!

Actually for the money, stick with Ubese. Buy 2 suits if you like, but definitely buy 2 Jackets and some Repair Tools. Don't let the condition get below 25% left and I prefer 50% to do my repairs.

At least on my server I can burn through about 1-2 Jackets in leveling 1 Elite Combat Prof if I repair them myself, which costs 1/10th what a Comp suit would. But the option is there for Comp too.

Vagnerian Canape is a good short term, "please Lord, save my unworthy hide" solution. Its only a 10 minute buff, at best, but you can use them one at a time at about 33% filling and keep yourself in GREAT shape for a bit.

Before I get shot.

Ahrisa is a 400 or so buff to Willpower, which lowers Mind costs, for about the same duration as a good Brandy. I've seen up to 51 minutes on Kettemoor (seriously). Average filling is about 33-35%. Average number of uses per Ahrisa is about 3 at the best I've seen.

Canape is a 720-760 point buff to Willpower and Focus, lasts about 8:30-10 minutes, with about 32-35% filling. Average number of uses, 6 or 7.

You get more bang out of a Canape, and the higher number of uses offsets the fact that you're using it more often, though the Ahrisa is more a Fire and Forget type of buff that you can easily accomodate with a bit of stat migration to get your Willpower above the magic 1500 point mark after some experimenting.

Canape works better for PvP, because it aides the regeneration of Mind stats where Ahrisa only helps keep you from killing yourself.

Firehawk, Janu, thanks! Great to see the community spirit still alive and well amongst carbineers.

You mentioned HAM, Janu, and that's a subject I'd forgotten about. Do you have advice for stat migration? I really had no idea what I was doing when I assigned them initially and haven't touched them since. Any rules of thumb you can think of would be much appreciated.

Oh! And one last thing (I hope ). How much should I be paying for a suit of Ubese? Saw some 76% or so on my server (Bria) going for 225k a set. Is that about fair?

While I am not on Bria, that sounds a bit high to me. Seems 75% Ubese on Chilastra is around 100k. I guess shop around and also compare with the Comp prices.

As far as Stat Migration, well just get Doc Buffs and they don't matter really....sad but true....for now at least

HAM migration depends on how often you intend to buff, which given the readily available nature of doctor buffs and the fact that you can avoid lethal HAM costs of our weapons, should be fairly often.

Given a pure buff set up.

Health/Con/Str: all at 400
Action/Qui/Sta: all at 400
Mind/Wil/Foc: 1100/1100/800 or 1000/1000/1000

Personally i don't bother with ubese since armour isn't hard to come by since i have my very own AS to slave away at a forge for me But for most players i can definitely say from both an AS and a Combat point of viewubese is the superior choice especially for grinding. A full suit of75% Kinectic Ubese will cost about 1/4 the price of a set of 80% Kinectic composite and offer basically the same protection in most PvE environments, so you can afford to go through it like nothing else. (2-3Janta missions and you have a new set, mostelite combat profs that will take them less than 10 minutes) And the HAM costs are a lot lower, which is a concern for carbineers especially.

With most composite to get rid of HAM costs on your weapons you need DoctorBuffs which most players will have anyways. Then 2hits of brandy, musician buffs and then usually some mind food. Which istruly a pain to keep up with. With most sets of ubese you can get away withjust the brandyand sometimes the food. So not only will ubese save youmoney since it costs less. It is less troubleto wear, since you don't have to borrow finding a entertainer I wouldn't expect an ubese set to last that long thougheven with repairs,i would keep a second set handy.

But for PvP head to toe composite with stun layers, sliced for effectiveness, buffed out of your mind on every morsel of food and spice you can find is the way to go. With the current system forbuffs there reallyis no reason not tomigrate all your statsaway from the health/action secondaries since 2500+ Doctor buffs area common occurance. Here is my set up for buffs when PvPing: Doctor Buffs (obviously), Dancer/Musician (wehave a convient 125% entertainer buff bot on Naboo) 2 hits of 415 Brandy, and a shot of Vanerian Canape at 730ish. Usually gives me all three pools at around 3500ish. It is also a good idea to keep things like Muon Gold and Neutron Pixie on your toolbar a quick boost if needed.

You should buy two sets of armor. One set of good ubese armor (this armor is wonderful for pve stuff, or doing missions. you can get some with 75kinetic resistance and about 45 to other damage types, get it all sliced, and its nice you can usually wear a full set unbuffed) and then get a good set of stun composite armor. (if you cant afford a whole set, at least get a composite stun helmet and chest plate is ideal as well. ) Also make sure you pick up some personal shield generators. As far as food goes. Vasarian brandy is a must. Snowcake or crispic will increase your accuracy. synthesteak reduces damage taken by 44percent(varies on differant servers) ithorian mist is nice (gives you defense vs dizzy) Make sure you pick up some muon from your local smuggler as well. (quick mind buff/heal) Visit your local chef or armorsmith, they should be able to set you up with all the food drinks and armor youll need. Hope this post helped a little, stay safe and good luck.

Thanks a ton, Forgotten! Really appreciate the advice. Also, I should have mentioned this in the post above, but I'm in no shape to be PvPing right now since my carb tree is 0301... I'm basically seeking a kickass set of equipment for gaining combat experience to work my way to master. I'll definitely look into the Ubese and a good laser carb.

Thanks again!

Ubese is fine, but it decays pretty fast. Composite is the best choice if you want to do some serious fighting and don't want to run back to the shop every ten hours. If you want to PvP, buy at least a chest plate and helmet with stun protection. PSG's (Personal Shield Generators) are also a great help.

Food: What food types should I keep on hand? I seem to have eaten all my melons and I'm pretty sure melons sucked anyhow.

Please read the chef menu. If you have doctor buffs, the only pool you have to boost is mind, and that is usually done with either Vasarian Brandy or Canape.

Hunting: If anyone has any recommendations for critters that make for good experience, I'd appreciate the pointers.

I mostly hunted huurton stalkers. You can find them on Dantooine. After you've got your doctor buffs and joined a sologroup, they're available for about 10,000 credits. Each lair spawns around 5-6 huurtons and one missions gives you around 60,000 experience points total.

Just in case you didn't know: because of doctor buffs (they boost all your HA stats with +2300 or more), players are able to solo alot of creatures. To get the higher payout missions, they join a solo-group: you still fight alone, but you're just in the group for the experience bonus and the higher mission difficulty.

Thanks! ~S
