Thread: Ranged professions compared in some remote way

I decided to compare the ranged professions and what they bonuses they get. This IS NOT including things such as damage and the like, just bonues. This is what you get at Master of each ranged profession.


Master Pistoleer:

+90 to speed

+40 to accuracy

+30 to accuracy while moving

No counterattack

+5 to ranged defense

+13 to melee defense

+20 to defense vs. stun

+30 to defense vs. knockdown

+20 to defense vs. blind

+20 to defense vs. dizzy

+30 to dodge

+16 to aim


Master Carbineer:

+35 to speed

+35 to accuracy

+30 to accuracy while moving

+20 to counterattack

+5 to ranged defense

Nomelee defense

+15 to defense vs. stun

+15 to defense vs. knockdown

No defense vs. blind

No defense vs. dizzy

No dodge

+4 to aim


Master Rifleman:

+65 to speed

+53 to accuracy

+10 to accuracy while moving

No counterattack

+18 to ranged defense

+20 to melee defense

+10 to defense vs. stun

No defense vs. knockdown

+10 to defense vs. blind

+10 to defense vs. dizzy

No dodge

+30 to aim



First off, correct me if I'm wrong on any of thee above.


Now, I would like to give some feedback on these numbers and the reality of being a Apprentice Carbineer looking at these forums at some feedback that people are giving and what I've experienced.


First off I'm a little puzzled at the speed. A MP has +90 to speed, and a MR has +65 but a MC has .... only +35? Ok is it just me or is it that Carbines (aka. Machine guns) should in my opinion be faster than a rifle? Shouldn't the MC have more speed than +35? A MR has +65 to his speed and I get +35? Maybe it's because my gun fires faster than the Rifle...? But the pistol? Help me understand.


Secondly, the MC get just +5 to ranged defense along with the MP while the MR gets +18... well then we head over to melee defense and the MP gets +13 and the MR gets +20 but the MC gets.... hey wait a minute....they get NOTHING. Zero melee defense for a Master Carbineer.


The MP, MC and MR all get Defense vs. Stun and the numbers are making sense.. MP +20, MC +15 and the MR with +10. The Rifleman doesn't get any Defense vs. Knockdown .. makes sense as he is more likely to be sniping.


So now we get to Defense vs. Blind and Defense vs. Dizzy. Hey look at that.. the MP get's +20 to Blind and the Rifleman gets +10... the Carbineer you ask? Well he gets ZERO! I guess the Rifleman is more likely to get blinded sniping from a mile away. That poor Master Carbineer will just have to put up with getting blinded.


Onto Defense vs. Dizzy... MP get's his +20 as he's usually in closer combat than the Carbineer or Rifleman. The Rifleman is awarded +10 to Dizzy. The Carbineer you ask? Guess what?!ZERO for him! 0 to Defense vs. Dizzy. Our poor MASTER Carbineer just can't seem to stop from getting dizzy....


Dodging? The MP gets +30, the MC nothing along with the MR. Hmmm.. shouldn't the MC get something for dodging? Maybe even +5?


And lastly, aiming. I guess our Master Carbineer friend isn't well rewarded for aiming. The Rifleman get's his heafty +30 and the Pistoleer gets his +16... but our Carbineer friend? He gets his measly +4 to Aim for being a Master Carbineer.




Looking back, the only place I really see the MC shining is CounterAttack. He gets +20 while the MP and MR get zero.


No melee defense for the Master Carbineer, 1/3 the speed of the Pistoleer, and just about half the speed of the Rifleman, No defense vs. blind or dizzy's, yet the Rifleman gets +10 to both of them. Not to mention the +4 to Aiming....


I won't get into how broke the specials are of our or others professions...just take a look on the Pistoleer or Rifleman forums and you'll see them asking for fixes also. I'm just comparing the +'s of the 3 Mastered ranged professions.


Just my observations.

Well that webpage is wrong then, I get +25 Counterattack with the Master box in Carbineer. I am in-game and double checked.


swgcraft.com will have the latest and greatest character builder up soon, but other than that all the others are out of date, check in-game for the real numbers.

#1 Your numbers for pistoleer + speed are wrong.


#2 This same discussion has been had over and over again.


#3 The Devs know the numbers are not fair and this is why they are doing a complete combat rebalance.

And just too add my 2 credits a carbine and a machine gun are 2 diffrent guns... dont really know how to eplain the diffrence the only thing I cna bring out is the Mg 34s that the Germans use and the M1 Carbine the americans used in WWII...

Quite true.

The M60 Machine Gun is a fully automatic belt fed STATIONARY machine gun. It fires a lot faster then a carbine and uses bigger 7.62, but is not at all moblie while firing. THIS is the crowd control weapon.

The M4 Colt Carbine is a gas powered semi-automaticmagazine fed 5.56mm assault rifle. The front line troop, people in the frey.

Carbine is not crowd control or covering fire, that would be the machine gun.

The rifle kind of takes this position with them being long range and hanging back, and all of their AoE attacks, and their guns with high AP.

Either way, that's not what carbineer is for.

You need to add all the mods up from novice marksman to master X to make any sense of this.


As a Master Carbineer, those numbers make no sense for just the Master box or for the entire elite tree, where did you get those? I don't see any of those as being correct in either situation... its +10 carbine speed and +25 counterattack for instance at Master Carbineer.

Thanks for correcting me


If you total up having Master Marksman and then having Master Pistoleer or Carbineer or Rifleman it becomes:


Pistoleer speed +115 accuracy +90

Carbineer speed +60 accuracy +105

Rifleman speed +90 accuracy +103


Ranged defense changes to +15 for Pistoleer, +15 for Carbineer and +28 for Rifleman


Melee defense changes to +15 for Pistoleer, +2 for Carbineer and +22 for Rifleman





I got the numbers by totaling up all the speed + in the whole Master Marksman tree and Master Pistoleer tree, then totaling up all the +'s for the Master Marksman and Master Carbineer tree and the same with the Rifleman.





Having Master Carbineer doesn't give you +25 to Counterattack according to that webpage...



Start on Novice Marksman and click every box and total up all the bonues for Pistoleer, Carbineer and Rifleman. Then add up all the + for each seperate profession, ie. just Carbine speed for carbineer, pistol speed for Pistoleer, etc.
