I have heard people talking about DOT carbines, what is DOT?

Damage over time.

ie a carbine that puts a poison or fire tick on the taget, or the enhanced E11 which puts a health bleed on.

I also believe the Carbine action shot causes a bleed. It was nerfed though with the other bleeds awhile back and is really slow and low damage now.
