Thread: Help me pick a template...

Okay, I've narrowed it down to:

M-Carbineer/M-Swordsman

M-Carbineer/M-Fencer

M-Carbineer/M-TKA

I like the high amount of damage from Swordsman - soloing Krayt missions is awesome (I read the FAQ Nova ) - , but the lack of defense is kind of..."killing me"...would composite armor add much?

I like the high amount of defensive skills from Fencer, but it doesnt seem to have alot of attack power

And I like the well-rounded TKA, with the minor buff and healing, but just exactly how powerful is it? Do you think I could solo a krayt with this and a decent carbine?

I haven't tried Carbineer/Swordsman yet, but I'd have to agree with you on the lack of defenses. I think that template would be suicide in PvP the way it is right now. If you have tried it and confirm that you can in fact solo a krayt with this combo, wow. Maybe I should have tried it after all lol. But I honestly don't see that happening without a LOT of medic.

The other 2 templates I have done, so let me tell youmy opinion on them and you can take from it what you may.

Carbineer/TKM -- Very nice in PvE. Though I think you'll find yourself hardly using Carbines as often as your TK skills on high level mobs. It is decent in PvP, but I would not rate it as high as Carbineer/Fencer. With a good set of armor and a bit of intelligence to boot, TKs are very easy to defend against. Also to note, I can often times out damage a TKM for looting rights with a carbine. While I had this template, I also had 4400 in fencer.

Carbineer/Fencer -- A much nicer combo for PvP. In PvE, you will use both professions fairly evenly, based on the situation. I find myself using carbs against ranged mobs and sticks against melee mobs, where as with TKM I tended to always go melee on all mobs. Fencer's damage output can not compete with that of a TKM in PvE though, so be prepared to spend a little longer killing higher level mobs. These mobs can still be killed, as the fencer's defenses keep them pretty safe, but they do tend to take longer due to the lower damage output. A stun baton makes for a nice weapon to even the playing field a bit, as mobs with lower stun resistances are the exception to that rule, and can probably be killed quicker by a fencer than a TK. In PvP, the high level of defenses and the ability to inflict stun damage shift most of the power to a fencer rather than a TKM. Along with this combo, I still had/have 4004 TK.

I have to say, I enjoyed both combos very much, and it was a rather hard decision to make choosing between the two. I have switched between both combos 3 times, having used each combo twice. I still have trouble making up my mind, and when I get bored in the game I tend to go back to the other combo lol. I will say that I miss the damage I could do in PvE with TKM, but I can compete much better in PvP with master fencer.

I thought i was the only Master Carbineer/Master Fencer/TKA 4004 (actually 3004, haven't got off my butt and grinded that last one out yet hehe)

Eisman put it like i would have. I tend to use my skill evenly across the board in PvE. I have yet to try PvP, I haven't done it, and i've started playin' SWG in august of last year. I should tho.

I love the powerboost ability, but I can't heal wounds yet since i've yet to get meditate 4. i clear some of the medium level caves on talus and rori with just powerboost and 2 brandies. i mostly use fencer when i journey to these caves, but i sometimes use carbineer to clear the entire caves once in a while. Reminds me of the time I cleared the Drall Hideout (i call it the Teddy Bear cave for obvious reasons) on Corellia using just my Laser Carbine hehe.

Anything except carbineer, no offense.

If you really want carbineer... Carbineer/Swordsman

It was pretty much all resumed in the FAQ and posts above. Currently, I'm Carbineer and Fencer, with 4003 TK. That allows me to keep the Teras Kasi 'healing' abilities and have great defenses, minus the damage.

For PvP, it simply rocks. I dueled a Rifleman/Swordsman, and his lack of posture down and general defense meant that in a Carbineer mode vs Rifleman mode, I was winning. In a Fencer vs Swordsman mode, I was winning.

In PvE, however, he would most likely spend a lot less than 40 minutes soloing an Elder, heh.

So it really depends on whatcha wanna do.
