Carbines are.. uh. Unique. Yeah.

It takes a whole new mentality from the other combat professions (go go gadget-limited information!), though once you get it, all down, it's pretty great. I can only speak for myself as a 4-2-1-2 Carbineer, but I really like it, and do pretty well with the right backup, buffs, armor, etc... in PVE. That's about all I can tell you about as I do no PVP worth noting, but in PVE, I do pretty well, including solo Rancor hunting and the like, though I cant do missions for anything tougher than say.. Mokks or Jantas, which happen to be very vulnerable to damage types I'm good at doing, and even then, if I get mobbed, I get dropped, 80%kin composite or not. With single-pulled large beasties though, Carbineer has rocked for me so far. I dabble a bit in CH (looking to master it, but it takes a long time so for now what I do is best considered dabbling), and with that I can tank if need be, though usually a good combo of threaten/warning shots work to keep them off me until I can do enough damage. I cant do much in the way of damage to areas with only FAA1 under my belt, and Chargeshot1, but once I get FAA2 and Chargeshot2, I expect that will change, still, all in good time. I say try it. As Firehawk has said often, the unique thing about the game is being able to choose whatever path you like and change it if you dont like it if you dont want it or would like to try something new. I say give it a try, I've had alot of fun with it, and I'm sure most people who try it do as well.

In conclusion: good stuff, but dont expect to just spam macros. It's all about being alert and knowing what to do in the situations you're in.

You will actually be able to do decent damage in PvE. The comparison between the two isn't even close once you get up to AR2 (most of the things in the new dungeons).

Although if I were you I would wait until after the BH changes and pick up smuggler pistols and novice commando too. That template looks like it would be fun.

Being a pistoleer is all about spamming your most damaging special as fast as your macros will allow you whilst making yourself as hard to hit as possible by moving quickly and not stopping.

In comparison carbineering is a highly complex art. Its like a game of ranged chess. Its all about making the most of your HAM and exerting the maximum amount of control on your target in order to stop him from being able to hit you.

You don't queue carbine commands apart from set piece combos (as a master BH I use FireKD followed by SprayShot as an opening gambit quite often). You must learn to use specials reactively.

A good carbineer doesn't watch the combat spam, he watches the target's status bar...is the target Blind or Dizzy or Stunned? If not, reapply those states. How long since the last KD? Do I have a suppression timer running?

These things you must know to be a carbineer...its a whole other way of fighting.

It's going to be like this for ALL professions once Combat Balance hits, so might as well get a head start

carbineers do more damage, but lack defense and require more skill
