Hello there Carbineers of SWG,
I'm a Master Tailor/Fencer and I've obviously got some points left to spend. I'm thinking of going up the carbineer profession just so I have something else to fight with instead of my Gaffi baton. I have 2 questions.
1. What tree in Carbineer should I go up?
2. What is a half decent weapon for Carbineer? Keep in mind I don't want to spend lots of money on the it since it's just a hobby of sorts and I won't be doing any PvP as a carbineer.

Get the branch that gives speed, then if you have skill points left pick the Accurcy branch.
A half decent carbine? You want a good Laser Carbine (speed sliced) for PvE fighting. Keep an DXR6 and EE3 in backup.

That is pretty tough if you are planning on having Novice Medic. Since you are already a Fencer, you should probably stick to something else in Brawler to conserve skill points. But having a ranged attack is nice

I worked it out on a character buidler actually here are my choices.
M Fencer/Tailor
N Medic
One tree of Carbineer
or
M Fencer/Tailor
Two trees of Carbineer.
Is crippling shot any good?

CripplingShot is great....but only when Speed Capped. That means Master Carbineer + SEA's or a mix of Carbineer/BH.....

Honesty, if you can only get two trees at best I don't think Carbineer is your best choice. Ranged attacks are fun but you really need to take carbs. to master or supliment it with BH Carbs. to be effective. As TAFirehawk said if you go with anothermelee profession you can go much further. If your deadset on going ranged pistoleer might be beteer to dabble in. If you must go carbs. you must take the speed line. I'd say probaly 4004 is the bset you can do. Good luck.

If you can only get 1 tree, don't...
If you can get 2 trees, 4400 but you will not have a knockdown. Your bread and butter will be fullautosingle2 and if you need some cone action, actionshot2 and wildshot2 will have to do.
