The Circle of Death

1: The Circle of Death is a very simple maneuver a low level player can use to kill even the largest of Krayts. Just follow these simple steps to your path to a wealth of great loot and time saving techniques:

I. When fighting Krayts keep a few things in mind here. The first and foremost is to have your burst-run icon ready to use at a moments notice or have /burstrun typed into so all you have to do is press . This will save you more times then not.
II. After you find your Krayt you will want to survey the area and choose a flat area with little hills and obstacles in the way. With terrain negotiation you can choose hillier and deeper slops to your advantage.

2.Use a ranged weapon. This is vital. A jedi can use saber throw and melee guys…well, your cant do this, this way.

I. With a Ranged weapon, something with 40+ meters is vital. As when you first attack the Krayt it will spawn slip right to your position without you even realizing it. The graphics on such huge creatures will sometimes be a few second behind and this can kill a pistoleer real fast who is not expecting this.
II. Use a fast recycle weapon that will do over nine-hundred damage (Carbine and High Cap. Scatter pistols are good choices). Using slower or less powerful weapons will increase the time it takes to take down a giant or ancient Krayt. Harvesting Krayt is our goal here. In an hours time I can harvest about fifteen to twenty kraits with this technique. Anything less is acceptable and is just for fun.

3.Some of the special shot effects you will need:

I.Snare Shot: to slow down your prey.
II.Root Shot: To stop your prey dead in their tracks if they get to close (only use this if they are close as the timer on it is slow to rewind).
III.Knockdown: Same as Root Shot, don’t use unless you need to…again the Krayt will slingshot when it gets up…make sure you have lots of space between you and your prey or you might find yourself the prey instead.
IV.Bleed: Useful, yes…necessary…no. Helps prevent the healing…but not much.

4.Terrain, Buildings and Rocks:

I. Krayts slow down a lot when they are chasing you up a hill, a snare even slows them down to the point were they are almost standing still.
II. Do not dip too far below a hill when luring the krayt in a “Circle of Death”. When a Krayt can’t see you, it will charge to the spot where it reacquires a view on you, almost like a burst run.
III. Do not go behind large cropping of rocks or behind building when luring the krayt in a “Circle of Death”, it will charge to the spot where it reacquires a view on you, almost like a burst run.

5.How to prevent the Krayt from healing for the most part:

I.Droids…yep. My level 18 droid hits the Krayt for 50 to 80 points of damage depending on the level of the Krayt. With this going on every second with about a 75% success on the attacks, you will be hitting the Krayt for 150 to 240 points of damage every 4 seconds (about the heal rate of an Ancient Krayt…but not quite).
II.The Krayt will ignore the Droids as they are concentrated on the most damaging person in the group (you). The droid will follow them around and will always attack.
III.A couple of notes on the droids. You will want one that will Attack quick and has a ranged attack. Up close and personal droids are to slow to keep up with the Juvie Krayt and Canyon Krayt.
IV.Train your droid to easily attack, follow and group. I use the following:
a.Attack = K
b.Follow Me = FM
c.Group = G
d.Follow Target = FT

6.Now some basic Techniques:

I.The Krayt will actually follow your exact foot steps. So the name of the technique is called the Circle of Death.
II.Circle the Krayt, the krayt will not charge you unless it looses sight of you. This way you can stay 20 to 50 meters out from the krayt depending on your class.
III.For Pistoleer, use a rifle to snare shot the krayt from 60 out…switch to the pistol when it gets closer…carbines are best for this though. As they won’t slow you down as much as a rifle does.
IV.Never let your action bar get below 50%, this is just asking for trouble. One or two missed shots at a critical moment will leave you as a tasty snack for the Krayt.
V.Use your basic attack as the means to attack. Try not to hit with to many effects as they will only change the damage about 5 points a shot on your basic attacks to about 50 to 100 on your high end shots.
VI.Use Storm Trooper and Rebel NPC’s at bases or on patrol to kill the Krayt.
a.Only use one or two Storm Troopers if you can from the get go. This will kill the krayt in about 5 to ten minutes.
b.The easiest way is to find a base with Storm Troopers or Rebels (rebels are less likely to help you though).
i.With bases, make sure you have the Krayt down to about 60% of its health.
ii.When the Krayt is at 60% of health, lead it in past the Storm Troopers or Rebels in the base and they will help you kill it.
iii.A good Storm Trooper base will help you kill the Krayt in about a minute…bad ones…about 2 minutes.

6.Why Hunt Krayts??:

I.The Armor loot itself (bonuses to health with battle armor).
II.Pearls sell for about 300,000 to a few million depedning on the value of the pearl (ready cash is what makes the world turn).
III.Assualt Armor Cores (can sell them or use them for Assualt Armor). Most of the good ones have kinetic protection of 6K or more.
IV.Tissues to make even better weapons. I have a carbine I made with my alt that is 990 damage, 2.1 speed and 90 SAC. This makes hunting Jedi (my Favorite thing to do beside killing krayts).

Very good info but a guide to Krayt Hunting is not going in the FAQ.....it belongs on a different forum.

If you want to change this to some general PvE Guide for CARBINEERS then it might be FAQ worthy.

I apply this technique to Krayts, Kilomongas (those level 109 guys in dant on the island). This is for any large critter. I just like using the technique the most on Krayts.

If you can take out a Krayt with this, then you can take out lots of other.

In generall a good hunting guide, a bit to spezific written on krayts and pistoleer, though still very good.

As TA mentioned, it would suit a generall FAQ for carbineers more if you would widen the targets from krayts to single large MOB hunting as well as skip the pistoleer part.

Can I copy this into the Star Wars Wiki as it is?
I would link it, as it is, from the Pistoleer Pistoleer as well from the Carbineer page?
In addition you could edit it there too, if you want to change anything on it...

the problem i am having with krayts is this: after i get them to about 50% health, the +retreat+ starts popping up over their head and they run, and no matter how many times i fire at them it misses...then i have to start all over again...

If this happens in the krayt graveyards it might be because you've lured them to far away from their spawn point.
I think the distance is 250m then it retreats.
While doing +retreat+ it cant be harmed and it almost regenerats in less then seconds to full health.

If you can seperate one and and still stay close enough to the spawn point of the Krayt graveyard it wont retreat. I have seen it happen that they retreat and was wondering too, but after we got to know about the 205m and we keep it close to the spawn point and it didnt retreat anymore

When they retreat if you can land any dot on them (i use cm poison) as soon as it ticks it will come back to kill you if it can. And will try prety hard. It usualy ticks before they are at full health. Dot them and /sit real quick for a second or two to fill up your action and some mind for the second round if you got enough distance. He will follow the same persute rules as listed all over again but watch for the lag when he agros. Know they are comming to you even if you cant see it yet...Or he just might teleport ontop of you.

I was going to comment on this. It is an obvious exploit to do this...

If a player decides to drop his faction peeps in a dangerous area or the devsdecide to drop a patrol of Imperials in the middle of Krayt land I will use them to my advantage. It just like luring a Krayt to a Lair so it gets attacked by all the critters. Same thing. As far exploiting. I dont sit in a cave and macro all damn day. I am actually at my pc taking chances with my characters armor and weapons unlike some people.

So...if you dont want me to use your things that I can...do not place them in dangerous areas...

Most likely the people placing them there have the intention of doing the same thing. But just to warn you, it is considered an exploit and if reported action may be taken.

Nice guide , but....

Krayts are so easy to kill now that has become silly , ive killed between 150 - 200 krayts since the CU took effect and tbh ive used minimal effort

I thought CU was going to bring about the use of groups for high end creatures/npc's but killing krayts/kimo's etc has become easy which in turn has made the game dull , oh well...
