Thread: Carbineers and Damage Mitigation
- It is a trait that works to reducea weapons range of damage by a given percentage.
- A weapons damage spread is defined fairly simple as the maximum damage minus the minimum damge.
- Damage Mitigation 1 - 20% reduction
- Damage Mitigation 2 - 40% reduction
- Damage Mitigation 3 - 60% reduction
- The trait*only* effects the maximum damage.
- There is a Melee version of the skill possessed by the close-quarter fighters (Pikeman, Swordsman, Fencer, Teri Kasi, *not* Jedi, but that may soon change)
- Ranged Damage Mitigation does not function against Melee Attacks and vice-versa
- Damage Mitigation does not stack with one another. (ie. Damage Mitigation 1 + Damage Miitigation 2is *not* Damage Mitigation 3)
Alright that's cool why do i care?
- Damage Mitigation is a large concern for desiding on the most effective weapon to use against certain targets in a Player versus Player Environment.
- As a defence ability it makescarbineers more resistant toranged attacks.
- DamageMitigation can have very severe consequences on some weapons, while very small effects on others.
- Knowledge IS power.
Ok ok, just tell me which weapon is best. Wellthere really is no best weapon in SWG. The game is diverse and every situation requires a different look. Here are a few examples frommy own personal arsenal to help you decide which will work best for you.(Note: All these weapons have33% Speedand 16% Min Damage Power-ups on them)
Speed Sliced Laser Carbine 88-309 (Average = 199)
- Damage Spread 309 - 88 = 221
- D.M. 1at 20% = 44 reduction = 88 - 265 (176)
- D.M. 2at 40% = 88 reduction = 88 - 221 (154)
- D.M. 3at 60% = 133 reduction = 88 - 176 (132)
Damage Sliced Laser Carbine 104-401 (Average = 252)
- Damage Spread 401 - 104 = 297
- D.M. 1 at 20% = 59 reduction 104-342 (223)
- D.M.2 at 40% = 119 reduction 104-282 (193)
- D.M. 3 at 60% = 178 reduction 104-223 (163)
Speed Sliced Kryat Elite Carbine 169-252 (Average = 210.5)
- Damage Spread 252 - 169 = 83
- D.M. 1 at 20% = 17 reduction = 169 - 235 (202)
- D.M. 2 at 40% = 33 reduction = 169 - 219 (194)
- D.M. 3 at 60% = 50 reduction = 169 - 202 (185)
Damage Sliced DXR-6 148-236 (Average = 192)
- Damge Spread 236 - 148 = 88
- D.M. 1 at 20% = 18 reduction = 148 - 218(183)
- D.M. 2 at 40% =35 reduction = 148 - 201 (175)
- D.M. 3 at 60% = 53 reduction = 148 - 183 (166)
Speed Sliced Kryat EE3 124-231 (Average = 178)
- Damage Spread 231 - 124 = 107
- D.M. 1 at 20% = 21 reduction 124 - 210 (167)
- D.M. 2 at 40% = 43 reduction 124 - 188 (156)
- D.M. 3 at 60% = 64 reduction 124 - 167 (146)
As you can see Different weapons have different uses. The EE3 takes the biggest hit, but as it is the only Heat Based weapon we have it definitely has it use. These are just my personal carbines,if you want to figure out the exact the stats for yours it is pretty simply. First, find the Damage Spread on the weapon. Then multiply that by 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 to find the reduction amount for each of the mitigation levels. Then subtract the amount of reduction from the maximum damage, add that to the minimum and divide it by two and voila Average Damage. In SWG the damage seems to be pretty even distributed. (ie you have the same chance of doing the maximum, the minimum or any value in between) so average Damage is definitely the best way to compare weaponary.
*** Note: some players feel this does not function properly i however disagree. There is no solid evidence either way, this was meant to be a guide to help you make desicions, if you find one weapon is functioning better than anoter even though your D.M. calcs tell you otherwise, then by all means use that one. ***
I think it works great!
I'd been wondering what the numbers are, and you did a great job here!
Not sure it helps much to do across server comparisons....
It would be beneficial to do some reasonable generic stats for carbines as a reference, then as notes came in we would see the cross server differences. But still not sure how that affects me on Chilastra knowing Flurry's stats.
I think the weapons should be compared WITHOUT powerups and that is and easy subtraction from the Examine window or simply remove them.
And the DPS should be used as the calculation especially with having different slices in the examples.
The speed sliced Laser is actually the largest % drop in average damage, but DPS is needed here ![]()
I am being a bit picky I know......the post is very well done and very informative.....job well done.
