Thread: Certification Proposal

Now I understand that many people are annoyed with the current certification requirements and that the requirements set as of now are not permanent and are subject to change but I have a very simple proposal.

Why not have multiple certifications for weapons?

Think about it logically, why would a MASTER carbineer not be able to use every carbine in the game? There is no logic in this. If you want to bring more people into Squad Leader fine by me, put the certs in master carbines and squad leader - that way someone who just wanted the gun (say a BH) will be able to get the gun without using all the skill points to master carbineer. To me there is no reason that someone who puts the skill points into mastering a proffesion shouldn't be certified to use every gun under their specialization branch. I have also heard that commando might get the cert for the proton carb. - probably the coolest looking carbine in the CU - why should a MC not be able to wield this? I dont see a flamer certification in dancer so why should these certifications increase the need to dabble when getting ham bonuses requires mastering proffesions - yet doing so doesn't really make you feel like such a master.

Cross class certs would help the game out imo - there would still be a reason to dabble - there are a ton of people who I am sure already have their templates picked out and are Master ______ and Master _____ with a little _________ and __________ for defense/offense/firepower. But throwing in a wildcard like putting certifications for guns in proffesions that don't even require the use of that gun is just plain ol' crazy-

-just my $.02 on the whole thing andI'm liking everything about the CU so far except that I might get screwed out of some nice new weaponry because of weird certs.

I think it isfine that we as Master Carbineers don't have access to every carbine in the game. Some people think that just because we are "Master" that we should be able to use every carbine. However, Master Pistoleers for almost two years haven't been able to usepistols such as thescatter pistol or the launcher pistol without dabbling in BH and commando, respectively. Nonetheless, lets just see what the final version of the CU will look like and we can work from there.

The problem is each profession deserves its own custom weapon only achievable at some level and especially the Master Box. Now it doesn't matter if it is called a Carbine or Pistol or Rifle or any other weapon, they deserve to have something unique.

For instance, when you see an Elite Carbine on a player, you KNOW that person is a Master Carbineer.....just like a DE-10 tells you the person is a Master Pistoleer.

I know a lot of folks are upset about most Carbines going to other profs, but look at it from the other profs point of view......they need a weapon of some sort and the Devs chose a Carbine, we should consider that an honor, not a slap in the face. If the Devs had given other profs everything but Carbines then I WOULD SERIOUSLY BE WORRIED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF CARBINEER.

Even with that said, I think there are a couple Carbines that could still have dual-certs.....but at least one for each of the profs should be unique, something to call their own and reason to be in each prof.

Yeah I actually think it's pretty cool. The fact that they're showing some love to squad leaders is great. I can't remember the last time I saw one on my server. They're few and far between. I'm looking forward to this and I'm staying out of the testing so that when it's actually released I can just enjoy it and take it for what it is.

  1. We will never be certified for every carbine. It just won't happen

  2. I agree that we could use some love regarding certs fornew guns

  3. There are still a few carbine certsthat don't have a home

Ithink multiple cert locations can be a good idea. However, I don't hold too much hope for this. One of the big high level goals of this upgrade is to provide distinction to professions. A big bad*ss weapon is a really good way to provide that.

Also there is the idea of having multiple versions of the same gun like they are doing for BH's with the scatter (a novice gun and master gun) but having that concept cross proffesions. For example the Proton Carbine -

Commando Proton Carbine

High damage
Low speed
High special cost
possible area damage (somewhat like a grenade launcher

Bounty Hunter Proton Carbine

Low Damage
High Speed
Very Accurate
Low Special Costs
+'s to knockdown and imobilizing attacks

Carbineer Proton Carbine

High Damage
Medium to low speed
Mid-range special costs
+to crowd control
+to certain state changes

All would have thier own custom look, bh carbine - sleaker; carbineer - assauly weapon look; commando - heavy weapon look/some extra feature like a (not-working) grenade launcher. This would still give people a very good reason to dabble, basically instead of 1 carbine you'd have 3 different purpose carbines that look very similiar.

But I do see the good in having the certifications spread amongst the other proffessions, makes more people want to dabble and then possible give up skills to master a proffesion they never would have thought to train novice. Well at least we can hope that carbineers will at least get the most effetive carbine post-CU

Good idea.

But of course we already have what, 16 Carbines in-game now......maybe 14 I didn't count all of them on the floor of the guildhall on TC5.
