Thread: Decisions Decisions--Pistol or Carbine

I'm a soon to be Master CM, and I've been flip-flopping between Carb (now 0000 carbineer) and Pistol (soon to be 0000 Pistoleer). I'm gonna need to drop one sooner or later and want to start focusing on one weapon. My primary interest for the future is PVP, if that helps.

I can't decide. Carbine has slightly higher damage per shot, AP2, better range....but ridiculous HAM penalties. Pistol seems to have better DPS, better close range accuracy....practically no HAM cost. Are the AOE specials in Carbine at all useful in PVP?

If you were in this position, which one would you run with, and which would you drop?

carbineer owns with CM. Pistoleer is alright with cm any carbineer/cm owns anything at all no matter what proffesion knockdown/mind poisen. carbineer has so many KD/posture changes they can never get you.

If Carbineer is ever fixed its going to be a serious presence on the battlefields. Maybe not on the order of Commando or BH, but someone to be reckoned with.

Pistoleers get their biggest benefits from short ranges, i.e. their KD is in melee range. As a CM you have ranged healing, so won't neccesarily be that close to mobs. If you think about the fact that you can hang back and heal, you might want the ability to KD at range to keep mobs away from you till other party members/pets can gain the agro.

I can't say for certain. My friend that I run with is a master CM and a pistoleer, and he can solo and group effectively. Either way is great. Me and him together are very destructive.

BTW I'm one of those Carbineers that likes the profession, and is really looking forward to getting our bugs fixed. I'm definitely not going to whine and cry about how broken we are and tell you to go be a pistoleer...I'm not delusional, I think that our AOE attacks, even as they stand, give us a unique role and unique abilities that are very fun.

The first time you group with someone and they go "Holy hell!!!! **edit** ARE YOU DOING!!!!" when you light off with a full auto area 2 and they've never seen 8 mobs report dmg at the same time...its fun.

Try each class. Carbineer has been fun for me.

Gravaar: Hey, when people ask you what the hell you're doing after lighting up the sky with full auto area 2, it's usually because you've just pissed off 8 mobs at once, making combat much more difficult...

Fullautoarea2 is very nice so is wildshot2 and actionshot2 <-- favorite AoE shots -- If they ever fix chargeshot2 and fix HAM's - Yes carbineer will be a force to reckon with anywhere.

Really, when I get that comment its from Medics sayin never use that attack again, its HAM cost is huge. I just simply explain thats for all my attacks and go back to killing myself.

SothoS: I wait until 8 mobs are on a pet before doing a full auto area 2...I'm not stupid. Using that technique I closed out the last 4 boxes of Carbineer in about 10 hrs of play time.

SWBarker12: I'm a novice medic using heavily experimented StimC's, so I don't worry about the HAM costs. Wildshot2 is much more HAM efficient anyway and gives the same dmg output.

Im a Master Carbineer, Master Combat Medic, and I love it. Here's why:
1.) Everyone screams high HAM - throw an area heal and renew your stats, or manage your costs by the 6 or 7 ways Ive discussed in my previous thread, "HAM Sandwich" in the carbineer forum. HAM becomes a mute point.
2.) Ranged KD vs MOBs. So very sweet to take on 3 grauls solo using repeated knockdowns and area poisons. Have bad Janta faction? Kick those stone age wanna-bes in the loincloth from 65m away, pick them off at your leisure.
3.) PvP. I don't always win at PvP, but I turn out on top at least 80% of the time. Once again the mix of KD and poison is insane, not to mention bleeds, stun and massive damage.
4.) Want to be the party hero? Let the party leader run you into a group of sludge panthers...then use your warbing shot/ kd to save everyone while spreading the love with massive area heals. Sure pistoleer has warning shot, but it's cooler with a carbine.
5.) Stat for stat, carbines and pistols are equal...except for AP. I have 1.7 speed carbines that deal over 350max dmg...very comparable to the average FWG5. Where I dominate over the pistoleer (other than all my very nice special attacks) is the AP. I penetrate upto medium armor and as a result I am more successful at fighting almost everything that comes my way.
6.) Carbineer has a few broken specials. They keep the profession from being all it can be, yet at the same time probably protect us from being nerfed into oblivion. Can you imagine the screams if Chargeshot2 really knocked down multiple PC's in PvP? OMG I can only imagine...5 people drop like flies, then get pimped with area mind poison C or Full Auto Area2.

So there it is. As a Master carbineer/ Master Combat Medic you can handle almost anything thrown at you - triple grauls, solo force sensitives, even solo krayts (if you are tactically minded). The only thing I have not been able to beat down consistantly is other Master Combat Medics and Dark Jedi.

Well. I am another one who eagerly anticipates carbineer getting fixed.

But the AoE shots (well the ones that work) are nice. I soloed the lost aqualish cave mainly using full auto area2, a dh-17 snub, and alot of stims. Can't wait for that group kd to get fixed. Oh boy. Am I gonna have some fun.

If you don't mind the wait then go carbineer. Wan't something right now go pistol.
