Thread: So, what am I getting in to? (General Carbineer Question)

Having finally decided on what to level (I've been a bit of everything since launch)

I was wondering if you could tell me what to expect having decided on Carbineer/Swordsman/4304 TKA (Yes, I know it isn't the 133test, but it's what I want)

Anything I should know about being a Carbineer? Besides sarcastic witty responses (which are appreciated) I'd like any and all advice anyone can give.

Thanks.

Does the counterattack from swordsmen and Carbineer stack? I'm gonna start working on my new template, Carbineer, Swordsmen, TKA 4400, novice medic soon.

Most people compliment Carbineer with a 0/4/0/0 (usually) Bounty Hunter, or vise versa. Many people go Master Doctor with this to prevent the stupid HAM costs, or swordsman for the Counterattack bonuses. I also suggest going up the marksmanship tree before anything else.

Here's an argument for those who say the HAM costs are too high.

Try rifleman for a day. The mind costs on rifleman are HUGE. Far far more expensive than Carbine.
In my opinion, the ham costs are balanced reasonably well. The people i feel who're having problems with ham costs are the one's who've migrated all their HAM out of their substats and into their main HAM bars.
Leaving substats at their lowest, causes problems when using specials. I have 750 quickness un buffed. My special costs on my action are minimal. I have 500 strength. Again my specials are minimal cost there too. My focus is low, but Twi'lek don't get much in sub stats for mind.

I am able to spam a lot of specials, and still maintain a good set of ham to stay alive in combat.
So i think that the whole issue with ham costs are in the eye of the beholder. Those who set up their stats with carbineer in mind, will find things much easier.
Those who think that their main HAM are the most important stats, well, you ain't gonna live long to put it bluntly.
Tweak your stats, learn how much they affect what you do. I've spent a long time messing with my stats for each profession i learn. Have done so since beta. They are extremely powerful when tweaked well.

Bah. It has been said by the DEVs in their response to our top five that HAM costs are too high.

carbineer kicks ass. it's a great profession, and once we get fixed will be amazing

go up assault first, IMO cripplingshot isn't great and speed is the key to a carbineers success

Dev's say a lot of things. it's all how you look at it though.
Yes they're high up, but they're not quite as bad as it seems. At least, not to me.

I have found the problem to HAM costs! Not only carbineer, but all professions (rifleman not included).

1.) Screw drain rate, have only enough to wear your armor.
2.) Pump up your primary stats and Regen.

Alright, so with my template and full armor, I'm:
Health 1000/1/170 (or so, not sure on the last one)
Action 1100/200/200 (around there, don't know exactly)
Mind 700/1/150 (or so, not sure on the last one).

Now, my friends, the solution to ALL your problems is ENCOPERATE (sp?) EVERYTHING! I don't just mean about HAM, I mean the whole game. You know those skill tapes and armor attachments? Use them! That food you eat? USE IT!

With the food fix, you can now eat food repeadedly and buff yourself back up right as it wears off.

I hit a BoH for +521 drain and a Veggihash for +170 regen. Stats move to:
Health 1000/522/340
Action 1100/771/370
Mind 700/522/320

As soon as it wears off, do it again!

That's my two credits... and it works for me
