Thread: The better cut? Bh/Carbineer or Bh/Pistoleer?

This is a copy of a similar post I made on Pistoleer board. So now I'll try the other side of the fence.

I ask this because awhile ago I made the decision to be a pistoleer when I saw that I could do mind damage(eyeshot), knockdown (lowblow), fire (torsoshot) and all sorts of different types (Acid, energy, stun, kinetic, heat)

This was though before I realised the nature of the speed cap. My jaw dropped when I read that a carbineer can fire a medium Ap 100-400 laser carbine at 1 speed with any special. I thought speed was a pistol thing. Silly me for thinking that stuff would be balanced.

I got Master pistoleer/Bh pistol/Smug anyway and while I like dodge, the defenses, the pistols I am pretty saddened that I only do three attacks out of the like basically Pistolwhip, fanshot, last ditch. I salivate in thinking that Carbineers get *working* specials and state effects but would I be happy? What are your thoughts? What made you guys stick with Carbineer?

Well BH/Carbineers do vary their attacks a bit, I seem to remember varying between crippling shot, legshot 3/wildshot, confusion shot and full auto single 2with some action shot and fire kd. Unless you're MBH Carbineer like me, then sprayshot will make you lazy, but occasionally Iuse legshot or other attacks if I have to get that state on.Its the varying of the attacks and tactics that made me stick with it, plus it seems to be more effective than a BH/Pistoleer on paper, at least for me. The Area Kd/state effects/posture down is a nice bonus for middle end pve.

Playing a pistoleer on test center,I remember just starting with torso shot, then spamming eyeshot/lastditch and the occasional kd and panic shot(forgot about that). PvE, just fanshot. Felt a bit boring in comparison to carbineer IMO.

I have found a carbineer template with excellent state defenses though that retains most of the accuracy and the crowd control tree heheheheheeeeeeee...................

The pistoleer specials are indeed more diverse, as are the damage types. The Pistoleer specials are also pretty useful (TorsoShot and EyeShot), and the Pistoleer defenses are far superior to that of a BH/Carbineers.

Still, our specials focus on states and posture changes. That's pretty much what Carbineer is all about, really.

As a BH/Carbineer, you can easily get that kind of weapon - you're looking at some 24% damage sliced stocked Laser. Get anything closer to, say, a 33% slice and you're speedcapping CrippleShot (which has a 7x damage modifier) with 430 max damage, or something like 570 max damage with a 33% max powerup.

Yeah.. I'd not bad, hehe. Just keep in mind that it's Energy damage, though.. so unlike your DE-10 or Geo Blaster.. a lot of it will bounce right off armor, and even more will be mitigated away. Altogether, Carbineers aren't known for damage dealing.. but the slew of killer specials in the BH carbine line more than makes up for it.

Applying a Dizzy/KD will take but a few seconds as a BH/Carbineer, and blinding/stunning your targets will be a piece of cake.

The specials that focus on states and posture changes instead of raw damage. Carbineer isa thinking profession.. don't expect to spam a special like EyeShot or StoppingShot over and over again. You will be using some 8-10 specials in PvP if you truly want to shine, so its definitely not for the faint-hearted.

You'll have to rely on knowing your opponents a lot more, knowing who has mitigation and who doesn't... who has high KD defenses and who doesn't.. who you can kill.. and who you can't.

Lastly, keep in mind that we severely lack defenses. You can pick up the Pistol Tech line to make up for that.. but it doesn't leave you much SP for anything else.

All in all, though, mostof us are carbineers because this profession caters do what we think is fun. Tactics and strategy are a Carbineer's best friend, and it's all about speed (of weapons, of applying states, of KDing targets) over raw damage.

well i would love to be as insightful as the 2 who have contributed to this thread already but i cannot. i have only been playing since march and have been pvp'ing for alot less than that.

fyi, my character is MBH / MC / Pistoleer 0.0.2.0 / Combat Prowess 2.0.0.0

if its pvp you want to get involved in then the above is damn fun but much better when teamed witha highdamage template.

and pve is also quite fun with this template.

it is quite possible, if played well to keep a TKM at arms reach and deal the DB without him touching you at all. This takes alot of running and weapon swapping but this makes it all the more fun. tactics and speed as someone mentioned. although i will add that this is not best tried on a PC prone to lag. any advantage is lost each time you lag.

i am by no means any pvp expert and i dont pretend to be... i just participate and enjoy it ... win or loose..

all i want to add here to this thread is that since i have aquired 85% of the guns i wanted for pvp, i am enjoying it more than ever with this template. a good selection of guns and alot of patience and practise will make carbineer alot of fun. i can certainly recommend it.

as far as the guns go... i have a krayt Laser (AS:2.8, 550 dmg with 32%PU), 2 krayt enhanced e-11's (health bleed dots, one speed sliced and one damage sliced - dmg slice 35% giving 474 i think with 32%PU), DH17 (oldest one i have and now not so heavily used due to the other new guns), Lith Carb (again health bleed dot and 480-ish dmg with 32%PU), 2x Geo's (one for speed and one for damage) and finally a krayt scatter. the bonus with all these guns and the template listed above is i can stack atleast 4 bleeds onto someone while stacking states and altering posture or KD'ing. makes for lots of hectic button pressing but some very satisfying battles. and when the odd victory occurs with not one point of damage being taken you get a very satisfying feeling knowing how little defense we carbineers have.

so my tips, just from experience so far.. sorry cant quote figures and numbers as i dont know enough about swg overall for that but...

1. for pvp it is well worth investing in a nice range of weapons. for example - if you are not doing much damage with a geo pistol the likelyhood is he has a PSG on and switching over to the scatter normally helps.. plus having the range of carbines mean you can save the bleeds once they have stuck and switch to a higher damage gun like the laser.

2. use pve to learn and practise your specials.

and to answer your final question... "What made you guys stick with Carbineer?"

well... the biggest thing is it is fun.

i like the challenge of something that involves abit more skill or tactics...

not just spamming one attack that hits mind.

yeah i'm not gonna win every pvp battle but thats not the point.

it takes no skill to spam one attack...

it does take alot more skill to win at pvp using 8-10 different Carbineer and BH specials and swap between 5 carbines and 3 pistols.

what is fun about just pressing the same button over and over again compared to assessing the correct time and style of attack combined with weapon choice and making the right selection of attacks. i know which i will be sticking with. i have no desire to be the most 'uber' just have the most fun.

hope this helps to give you an more of a descriptive idea about what fun being a carbineer can be.

I use both personally, the BH pistol specials in addition to BHcarb with a 0404 carbineer. Save for the lack of defences it's great, cripple shot at the speed cap is nasty, but with the wrong carb it will eat your mind up real quick.

Carb will give you plenty of posture choices, and easy application of states. Poor defences though, thats where dodge will blow a carbineer away, if you decide on a BH/Carb template I would strongly suggest novice brawler for intimidate to help bridge the gap.

Either template can put you at the top of your game second only to fate or a full stomach

But my focus is the carbine, timing and the need to control your enemy is alot more challenging and rewarding imo.

No, sorry you guys are all wrong.............I find that being Master Dancer with that title on my char is much more intimidating in battle than Master Carbineer/BH or Pistoleer. Really, it's true but sad
