Charge! BAYONETS!

Now Now, don't yell just yet. I'm 100% aware a Bayonet has nothing to do with "true Star Wars," but let me explain my reasons.

More than speed, more than new carbines...I'd love to be able to defend myself against the melee-genre of SWG. Why might you ask?

The Bayonet was an English invention, designed for English troops to counter Scottish Highlander forces. Why? Both sides would advance and deliver a volley...the English would reload, the Scots would throw down their muskets, draw their broadswords and shields and charge.

The pikeman of the day would try to defend, thrusting their pikes into the shields of highlanders, the highlanders then taking their heavy swords, smashing the pike to pieces, and slicing through the enemy. Muskets were no defense against the heavy bladed swords.

Then the bayonet was invented, and muskets received not only the long range firepower, but the short range shock effect of a pike. The sharp strong blade could be used effectively to counter any melee troops to come near them.

...and very slowly the age of "Highlander" effectiveness in the Civil Strife of the English wars in1600-1700s came to an end. The bayonet had totally revolutionized warfare.

In true SW, such a weapon would be useless. In SWG, where Teras Kasi, Fencers, Swordsman and Pikeman can dominate any ranged opponent, and since Carbineers receive such minimal defenses...a bayonet would be an offensive means to add defensive force.

Thoughts? Comments?

Actually I always though that the french were the ones who invented bayonettes at around 1500 or so. Something to do with the troops from a town called Bayone thrusting daggers into the muzzles of the old matchlocks in use when combat got to close. Although during that era average range for combat was around 100 feet or so. Kinda like star wars galaxies. In either case it was used to counter the cavalry of the day.

But. I have made a post on this as well. If you take a look at a stocked laser carbine you can clearly see a bayonet mount on the bottom of the muzzle. And it would make sense. Seeing that we are supposed to be the front line grunts. Might as well have some in your face effectiveness. I dunno maybe list it under special abilities because it would be a secondary weapon with its own set of specials. And limit it to certain weapons. Maybe only the elite, slugthrower, and the laser carbine. A bayonette would look retarded on a DH-17, EE3, DXR6, or E-11.

But the technical design of Carbine is firing on the move, which is also used for a "bayonet thrust attack."

We have zero defenses of importance, so a bayonet is that offensive means of defense.
